It's not just LN being ebil... it's the forum rules :scholar:

The underdog was already mentioned in this abandonware discussion ;)

I linked to the underdog once :o but it was for a fan remake, not abandonware :-\

*Goes to remove the link*

B'rrr

of course it's the forum rule  :P

the underdogsite doesn't contain all abandonware, it also has freeware  :D

Yeah, but the site still gives out abandonware, and therefore is forbidden :(
I changed link on my post to a different link to the game 8)

I just re-read that thread. :P  I'll clarify the rule since a few people have asked me.  Freeware is ok for this thread, and by freeware I mean games that were created for free and were always intended to be free.  Abandonware is not ok, and by that I mean games that were created for profit and were always inteded to be for profit (yet someone decided to label them as free and distribute them).

If a freeware game appears on an abandonware site, that's fine with me if that link goes to the direct game.  But if the site contains both freeware and illegal games, then it's obviously not ok and the post that links to that site will be deleted.

and now back to posting freeware games. :D :P

What about games originally made for profit, but later released as freeware?

Then linking directly to freeware games on The Underdog is ok? it contains both freeware and abandonware.

I can't think of any at the moment, but if they were released by the original company that designed the game, as freeware, then that's fine.

Correct.  Links to specific freeware games are fine.  But links or posts containing links to The Underdog itself are not.  It's a fine line, which is more based on the content of the post rather than the link itself.  So, if the only links you can find to a game belong to sites containing warez/porn/spyware, just discuss the game itself and forget the link.  :P

Yeah, you've mentioned it before, but neglected to mention the company was Sierra (Dynamix) ;)

Another great free game (shareware) is Jill of the Jungle, a fun platform game from Epic Megagames, the company that created the Keen series 8)

This game and its two sequels are some of the very few platform games I ever finished, mostly thanks to the fact you can save your game anywhere :P
It was one of the games that came with our brand new SoundBlaster 2.0 card, and back then I thought its sound effects are amazing 8)

Quote from: Jeysie on May 19, 2004, 10:11:23 AMScorched EarthThe premise is simple... you get a little tank. You buy weapons and shields for your tank. You then activate your defenses, choose your power and firing angle, and let fly with one shot each turn to try and hit your opponent. The graphics are simple, too. And yet, it's addictingly fun.

Pocket Tanks is another shareware game - a sort of a remake of Scorched Earth. The concept is the same - tanks trying to blast each other using all sorts of fancy weapons.
The upside is that the graphics, sound and controls are much better, and that it has no problem running on Windows, even XP.
The downside - it's a lot less customizable than the original and has less features - playing with the physics and weather conditions is very limited, you can only have two player, etc. Also, you don't REALLY get to blast the other tank to oblivion - the tanks take no damage no matter what you throw at them, you just get a higher score for successful hits.

Scorched 3D is another Scorched Earth remake, this time in 3D.
Unlike the other two, it's a freeware. I haven't checked it out myself, but it looks nice and has a multiplayer option (hear that, Jeysie?) ;)

Thanks for telling me Storm. :)

*wonders how he managed to forget that detail* :P

Pingus v.6

It's the opensource alternative to Lemmings(with a decent/unfinished storyline, for the game type). It also allows you to download/make new levels.

P.S. I've never tried the Windows port, but the Linux version runs fine(is stable).
