I never played a QfG game before, so I assume now would be as good a time as any. I also think they should start to bundle some of the older titles into their respective series for a convenient price. I want to buy the King Quest series on GoG, but it's ultimately $30, while this series is $10. Quite a difference there.

There is the difference of KQ having 8 games and QFG only having 5. But for $30 that puts the KQ games at about $3.75 a piece, and the QFG games $2 each. I guess GoG (or ActiVision? Who sets the prices anyway?) considers the KQ games to be more worth the extra $1.75 per title than QFG.

You've got a point, I guess it's not that big a difference after all. Still, it'd be more convenient to have one KQ bundle, rather than split them up into thirds.

The price doesn't matter much though for the KQ games, cause when they have sales, the overall price is much more convenient. I missed the last sale that wasn't that long ago, but I'll make sure to get the next one.

If you were playing for the first time would you recommend fighter, magic-user, or thief?

It depends on your preference. I've generally played a fighter/magic user hybrid.

I always like playing thieves in games :) And rarely do I play magic-users. But that's a personal preference.

As snabott said, it is definitely a preference thing.  But to give you an idea of how to think when playing each class.

Fighter: Solve problems head on, usually involves stabbing obstacles

Magic User: Solve problems indirectly, experiment with how spells complement each other and always ask other magic users about magic

Thief: Avoid problem altogether, make thief sign to shady people.  ???.  Profit.

Personally I always start as a Thief and then add points to missing skills so I have all of them.  Then I can solve each encountered problem however I want at that moment.

I actually do the same thing as Weldon. I mean, I think what I do is start as a thief and put points into magic. That unlocks that as an option and I can go about learning spells and picking locks without a care in the world. XD

The toughest decision for me is always whether to stay acting as a Thief in QfG2 or to stay away from breaking and entering jobs to become a Paladin for future games.

Of course, the beauty of the different roles is that you can play through each game multiple times and experience different gameplay.

And speaking of all three classes... *whistles and points out the Express Your Creativity! board's newest topic* really need feedback on that, preferably from QFG fans. Please? I hate it whenever I post something and, while it gets views, it gets no replies and I have no idea how well or bad I'm doing.

Blackthorne

My favorite way to play the games is as a Thief with magic.  I've always had fun that way.

But the best thing, honestly, to do is to play all the classes.  I mean, it takes time - it's not something to be done in one sitting, but in the end you get a great QFG experience.

You know, I have to wonder now... is it possible to play a Thief, yet not do any stealing at all? or is it just "You picked this class, so you MUST do this whether you want to or not!"

It's possible yes, you just can't get full points as a thief without ever stealing stuff.

I always play thief magic users in every RPG I play (focusing on archery as well, if possible, which it isn't in QFG).

You can throw daggers of course, but it is never really a viable way to kill non plot related baddies.

Okay started playing Dragonfire, which is uncharted territory for me, and I'm curious if anyone can give me some crucial tips/warnings before I do anything significant.  So far I've joined up with the local Thieves Guild and robbed an empty house.  I am the master fief.
