Speaking as a  Southerner, Haids, it's "chil'", with an apostrophe. :P XD (Why, yes, I'm even picky about substandard diction and the representation of accents/dialects.)
Is it really? Wow. Then I guess Roberta was wrong when she was writing Celie's dialogue in Colonel's Bequest (which was my basis for my online accent), wasn't she?  :o

I'd say "yes", actually... Grammar is so prickly and sticklery that it has standard ways of representing things that are substandard. The point of using the apostrophe in this case is to mark that it is irregular and is not something else that might otherwise be standard. There's no way around it for, say, "Southe'n" (b/c someone might read "Southen" with a hard/tense ou sound (ow in how, as in south)... and that just doesn't work). The flip side of this is that to people whose accent IS the one being represented "Why on earth would you write "c-h-i-l-'" for "c-h-i-l-d", child?" (But, then, how do you read "child" at the end of that? :P). Anyway, the elision or silencing of certain sounds is marked by the apostrophe in general (even in things that are considered standard).

-being tired and groggy all day today (because that's what I do apparently)
-needing to step away from discussions of dialect... the voice in my head is getting stuck in Southe'n... *shudders*
-awaiting journal club...
-thinking I want a snack...

Cray: we stayed a Marriott south of the river...and mostly, I worked, heh :) The thing about an online virtual office is that it goes anywhere you go! But we also briefly went to 6th Street (which on a Monday evening at 7 was...deserted and kinda sketchy!) and ate at Stubb's BBQ one night, went to an improv show at The Institution another night, and went to Guero's Taco Bar with a local friend our last night there.

No pictures really--sorry! But I welcome seeing yours :)

I think I was there during like a vacation week for schools. It wasn't ever deserted (sometimes sketchy though :P) even on Monday. We went several times. Sightseeing during the day, draaaaankin' at night.

That's the shape of many virus particles. Jafar, your confidence is a virus? :o
It seems I was confused - virus particles are often icosahedral, not dodecahedral. It's been too long since I did virology. :-\

I couldn't find a picture of the "easy chocolate drop" cookies... :-\ (and for some reason, I don't bake chocolate chip cookies... at least, not regularly, and not from scratch usually)...

-being tired
-having a sore throat :( ...and periodically a runny nose
-realizing that this means I'll probably be sick... while I'm waiting in line to update my immigration card :-\ (you have to physically go out to the office in the wee hours of the morning because if you aren't in the queue when the place opens, you may not get a ticket, and if you don't get a ticket, you won't be seen, so you'll have to do it... again... quelle joie)

-having my ASGI presentation and TKD grading on the same day next week... one word for that: FUN ::)
-but hey, I no longer feel like I'm going to explode because of ALL OF THE THINGS!!... so, there's that...
