- Listening to music from VVVVVV.
- About to go to bed.
- Feeling so happy to share this! http://archive.legendsofglory.com/journal/journal.htm
A little explanation: This year I decided to do a little gaming challenge for the Quest For Glory series, known as the Quest For Glory Journal Playthrough or as I've been calling it, "The Challenge". Basically, what I'm doing is I'm writing a journal from first person POV using one of my fanfiction characters based on the Hero of Quest For Glory named Marcus Donnelly. The "challenge" part of all this, is that I'm going to make this playthrough last the entire year, calling back to what the creators, Lori and Corey Cole, have said about the series that it was originally based on the four seasons with Wages of War (game three) as a "bridge" between Trial by Fire (second game) and Shadows of Darkness (fourth game). Spielburg is in Spring (started March 21st, ended April 11th), Shapier is Summer (starting June 21st), Tarna takes place three months later so we skip the last two months of Summer and the first month in Autumn which will give me one month for Tarna, Mordavia has one month in Autumn, and I end with Silmaria in Winter.

If the name Marcus Donnelly sounds familiar, that's because, yes it is the same character from my QFG fanfiction series (for those who still care, I am still continuing it but it's going through some MAJOR revisions and worldbuilding right now, including a new title.) Sort of. This Marcus is from an AU, whereas instead of going off with Finn Dillon and Rico Larron to all have all three become Heroes (like in my canon storyline), this Marcus sets off alone, the explanation given that while Finn and Rico still exist in this alternate universe they did not wish to go with Finn's reason being partially due to cowardice and partially due to him wanting to train his Magic under his father and Rico's being that he just got inducted into their town's Thieves Guild and is perfectly fine where he is. Also, unlike 'canon" Marcus, he carries a shield with his family crest on it because unlike his counterpart, his sword is a broadsword instead of a zweihander which is two handed mostly.

Before you ask, no, that's not my website. I only know HTML basics. That's Legends of Glory, a QFG fansite by Orion. He offered to put my stuff on his site and I accepted. Speaking of that, hey Crayauchtin? If you ever read this, are you still up for putting my stuff on your Arcane Lore Wiki?

According to his profile, Crayauchtin hasn't been on this forum since January 25. If you're trying to contact him, well, good luck with that.

So a friend of mine shows me a youtube video of a Doom mod. The mod had a song in the background that seemed very familiar to me. Lo and behold it's from anime I used to watch back in Highschool. Now I spent the weekend binge watching Urusei Yatsura. Oh and this is coming from someone who hasn't watched anime in over a decade :P

Speaking of Doom mods, The Ghoul's Forest 3 is my favorite mod to watch people play during the lovely month of October.

<a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qkMonYgb_i8" target="_blank">http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qkMonYgb_i8</a>

Think Slender meets Five Nights at Freddy's. The player character starts out in a creepy forest at night, and whenever they get killed, chances are it's a jump scare by either a little imp-like creature or a giant floating head. They actually use the same sound effects as the screamer pranks that were so popular on the Internet a few years back.

If you want to see someone who's actually good enough to beat the level, check out this second video instead of the first. Be warned that the player character shows off all the death scenes at the end of the video, the last of which includes disturbing images (some from a shock site) flashing almost subliminally on the screen for a very brief period of time before settling on a screamer picture.

<a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DT9CEVwjexU" target="_blank">http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DT9CEVwjexU</a>

It may not look that scary watching other people play, but trust me, it's pretty nerve-wracking when you play it yourself, especially if you're alone and in the middle of the night without the lights on, like any horror aficionado.

It's amazing how people can take ancient games like Doom and add new twists to them to make them relevant today.

Another really good Doom mod is Unloved, which isn't outwardly scary, but has a downright disturbing atmosphere, ala Silent Hill. In my opinion, Unloved is vastly superior to the original Doom games, which, much as I love them, had some pretty glaring flaws. While one of the most important FPSs ever made, it's also one of the first, and the growing pains are pretty obvious. Still, it at least left its predecessor, Wolfenstein 3D, in the dust. Only to get supplanted later by Duke Nukem 3D...which was then overtaken by Quake...which was then overtaken by Half-Life...which was then overtaken by Halo...which was then overtaken by Call of Duty...chances are, most FPS players really love at least one of these franchises, and really hate another.

This here's a playlist of Unloved with developer commentary, which is pretty interesting to listen to. The guy stutters a lot and slurs his words, but I'll give him a pass since he's a developer first and a Let's Player second.

- Freaking out and crying over Dropbox. :(

I'm doing a gaming challenge over in Sierra Chest, Quest for Glory character journals to be precise. I just got to Tarna today...

The first day? Took two hours!

AND! Like always I've been doing Print Screens of stuff like dialogue and description in-game and just nice shots.

GUESS WHAT?! Not ONE of my Print screens registered into Dropbox! I'm very thorough, I take pictures of EVERY description and dialogue I find!

So you know what this means?! I gotta go through this ay all over again to make sure the picture register! This first day is gonna be hell for me, because these character journals I write? THEY TAKE FOREVER TO WRITE! And I'm NOT pulling an all nighter like I did for Shapeir's finale, because I got school tomorrow and I gotta get up at 6 AM!

*EXPLODES*

*sizzles*

So after finishing my Urusei Yatsura binge watching I've moved on to Oh My Goddess. After that... I'll probably have no anime to watch. Ah well. I suppose it's about time I go check out Gotham.

That's a shame. I do still have Arrow, Flash and Gotham on my wishlist. Knowing the way I watch TV shows I'm likely to watch all of these in under two weeks. So I'll probably space them out with games.

Just watched the teaser trailer for Star Wars episode 7. Ugh...just ugh. Talk about underwhelming. Who else thinks it's going to suck more than the prequels? Because I think it looks horrible.

I think it will be better than the prequels, but that teaser was really not good.

At first I thought it was a parody when that stormtrooper appeared in the beginning. That claymore lightsaber looks kind of dumb imo. Oh and I'm pretty sure X-wings weren't made for planetary combat. Sooo... yeah...

Here's my breakdown on why I hated the trailer:

00:00-00:20

Extremely cheesy dialogue delivered by the stupidest-sounding villain voice I've ever heard. The Clone Wars TV series had some cheesy-sounding villain voices, but there was nothing this bad in it. Also, a really long boring shot of ugly desert...

00:23

...and then a stormtrooper played a black actor pops into frame as if to say "boo!" What am I watching, some YouTube prank video? Also, I'm not sure if you're aware of this, Disney, but uh...there were no black Imperials in the original trilogy. The Imperials were modeled after Nazi soldiers, which obviously means no people of color. This just goes to show how desperate they are to avoid offending minorities in this politically-correct world of bile we live in.

00:29-00:31

Okay, what the hell is that stupid-looking thing? It looks like a soccer ball with an R2 head magically balanced on top. They weren't even trying with that droid design. They're being lazy, and that's the predominant feeling I get from this trailer: laziness, not helped by frequent cuts to black because they have nothing important to show.

00:33-00:35

New Stormtrooper design, which is okay-looking, but it shows them between seizure-inducing black flashes, which I've already mentioned above, and the shot of the new rifle we get is way too blurry to see if it's any good or not.

00:38

Looks exactly like every other shot we've seen of people exiting ships. Originality fail.

00:39-00:41

Presumably Han and Leia's daughter, since she looks both like Natalie Portman and young Carrie Fisher before her. She's driving a butt-ugly speeder of some kind on the exciting sand planet that we've definitely never seen before that is totally unique to this movie. Oh wait, they're just reusing old planets because they're out of ideas? You don't say.

00:44-00:48

A rebel pilot who looks exactly like Wedge. Apparently the actor for Wedge declined the opportunity to return for this movie. That's okay, kids! They'll just get another one. Then there's a formation of X-Wings flying way too close to the water, because that's obviously the smart thing to do when you're flying a tiny military jet of any kind.

00:49-00:55

Our new bad guy, still spouting stupid-sounding lines and, from the back, looking like every other Sith Lord from the Expanded Universe, while wielding the dumbest-looking lightsaber I've ever seen. It's getting to the point where they think every evil saber-wielder needs to have a unique lightsaber to set them apart from Darth Vader and the Emperor. It started with Darth Maul getting a saber staff, continued in the Clone Wars with General Krell who has TWO saber staffs, Pre Vizsla with a black-bladed "darksaber" and Mother Talzin with a green physical sword, then continued on once again in Star Wars Rebels, with the Inquisitor getting a saber staff with a circular hilt that rotates the blades like a buzz-saw. The thing is, those new sabers are so completely insane that they actually work. Our new villain's saber? No. Absolutely not. It looks ridiculous. What's the point of the mini-sabers sticking out the sides of the handle? Is he vain, and consumed by the need to stand apart from other, better characters? Does he need them to shave?

1:00-1:09

A long shot of the Millennium Falcon flying through the air and spinning around in a vomit-inducing pattern, looking just like it came out of a video game. Whee! Unfortunately, this sad excuse for a roller coaster ride is probably the best shot in the trailer. And of course, the Star Wars theme plays during this shot, as if to say, "Yep, that's what it's all about."

1:15

And then finally, the title. I like how they're afraid to put the Episode VII in the title, as if they're worried people haven't caught up to it yet. We've had all the time in the world to watch the other episodes, people, just give it the damn Episode VII already. Although if it's as bad as the teaser makes it look, the VII won't be necessary because people will just pretend that this movie doesn't exist.

Some final thoughts: I notice they didn't put any of the older cast members in the trailer. Well, that's all right, who needs the likable memorable characters of the original trilogy?

Only the first teaser and already this new movie has found many, many ways to fail. Abrams, you did the impossible with Star Trek by taking a godawful franchise and actually making it watchable, but you have a lot to answer for on the Star Wars front.
I have no mouth, and I must scream.

Huh. I actually didn't know that. Interesting trivia.

I recognize none of those names, save Darth Maul, so I'll take your word for it. :) I just assumed that was just a showy crossguard.
