Actually, screens are all that you would need.  With AGS, you could link them together into a mini-game without using any programming at all.

I have created a mini-game using your scenes from Kings Quest I. You can download it here:

http://www.filefactory.com/file/cda259c/n/KQ1-3D.zip

In the text box you can type in north, south, east, west, n, s, e, w to move to another scene. When you're in the scene with the sword under the rock, type "move rock" to move the rock, then type "take sword" to take the sword. Only lower-case letters may be used. Press the Tab key to check your inventory, and press Ctrl-Q to exit the game.

Daventry, if you would like to develop this further, let me know and I'll send you the source code and provide help if you need it. It's really easy to do; the mini-game only took me about an hour to create.

On the High Mountain of Kolyma, King Graham spots a Poisonous Snake and throw the Magic Bridle at it in witch it turns into a Beautiful Flying Horse.

King Graham stands beside the Poisonous River and asks the Ferryman if he could come across to the Castle at the other side.

Very nice!! And such memorable scenes!
