Re: Damar's point about the end:
Specifically, about the bomb. True--it's still bad, no doubt about that. But it didn't, at least, go off on top of a major city and kill everyone in it. It's a "lesser evil" kind of thing.

I also read somewhere that the bomb should have set off a tsunami, which then would've done a number on Gotham to say the least!
And the other point about the end:
Yeah--heartbreaking as it was to see Alfred breaking down like at the graves ;( I also think he should've died. Or, again, that if he was going to live, we should've seen more of him finding something ELSE to live for--the most obvious possibility being a relationship with Catwoman/Selina Kyle. I mean, she IS right there with him at the end, after all. Like I said before, I felt overall that his relationships with both her and Miranda could've used more development.
My biggest issue with the film though was...SPOILER TAG TIME!
Batman should have died.  They were building that up from the very beginning.  And he had a nuclear bomb strapped to his batplane.  Not only does it stretch credibility that he just dropped the bomb and flew off and somehow escaped the radiation, but it also robbed the end of the emotion it held.  Bruce Wayne doesn't get to heal.  That's why he became the Batman.  He's a tragic and deeply flawed character and his story can only end in sadness and tragedy.  Plus, once again, they were foreshadowing it from the beginning.  I wanted to groan when I saw Alfred at the cafe and knew what was coming next.  Batman should have died.  No chance of return, no happiness.  He chose his path.  Though to be fair, I was kind of expecting Nolan to salt the earth and kill off Fox as well.

While I agree that it would have been a more solid ending from a narrative standpoint, there probably would have been a massive backlash from enraged fanboys giving Nolan the moniker "The Man Who Killed Batman" or some crap like that. Granted, these are fanboys I'm talking about here, and it's not like most people take them seriously, but Nolan probably chose the lesser of the two evils in this case.

Besides, I'm willing to give leeway to Nolan for what essentially amounts to killing Batman, but not Bruce Wayne, who goes on with having a life like everyone else. Gotham is now "Robin's" problem, not Bruce's.
