Online friends vs. offline friends

I wish sleep wasn't necessary.

For one, I could use the extra 8 hours to get stuff done.

For two, it would eliminate the problem of sleeping poorly at night, then feeling like crap the next day. Like, oh, the past two weeks. I've already managed to make several mistakes both at work and on personal projects, because I can't think straight. (Considering my brain is naturally futzed to begin with, being stuck with sleep deprivation is not a good thing.)

B'rrr

I'm not sure what I'd do without my online friends.  I'd probably hang out with my offline friends more, but just seems like they've gone their separate ways since we've been going off to school and everything.  And one of them has so much more in common w/ my sis now that I feel like the outsider anytime we hang out.  *sighs*  I'm depressed now! :P

wow, so you actually can feel tired if you do not sleep and you feel tired also if you oversleep?

Yep. Isn't the human body great? :P

I think it's sort of an inertia thing... once your body has been sleeping past a certain point, it wants to keep sleeping. That's Harrison's theory, anyway, and it makes sense to me. ;)

If I didn't have a computer and the Internet, I probably *would* just sleep whenever I was home... there's just not much else for me to do most the time.

Yeah, you CAN get too much sleep.  I find out that I feel this way after getting about 8 hours.  All I want to do after that is sleep!  So, guys, the best thing to do is get into a routine (look who I'm talking to!).  Go to bed at a certain time, get up at a certain time.  You'll start feeling better within a week! (like anyone here will take the advice!)

Heh, I'm doing the complete opposite these days.  I can't go to bed before midnight and I still wake up around 8 or 9 in the morning.  :'(

For some reason -- 7 hours is best for me and I sleep more when the weather is colder --sleep then almost always feels deeper and I love having a blanket or two and being warm while the room is ice cold -- only problem is that I do not want to get up -- LOL --- usually 5-7 hours in the summer and 6-9 hours in the winter here in Arizona -- land of the heat, sun and oh yeah -- monsoons --- best season here in Tucson, Arizona -- in my opinion -- :> -- where do you live, Jeysie if you do not mind me asking?

I go to bed at like 7 pm and sleep till like 1 am so only six hours a sleep i should get back to sleeping normal.

I'm usually in bed between 9 and 10...and usually wake up right around 6...but with the sun rising earlier and earlier, it's more like 5:30.  When that happens, I turn over and stuff my head in a pillow to make it dark again!

Quote from: dew7 on June 23, 2004, 12:42:36 AM-- where do you live, Jeysie if you do not mind me asking?

I live in Springfield, Massachusetts. In the western part of the state, which nobody ever hears about. ;) I grew up in Pittsfield, MA, though, which is ever further west... not too far off from Upstate New York.

The weather here is cold and snowy in the winter, and hot and humid and rainy in the summer. Spring and fall are usually quite nice, but last maybe a few weeks at most, weather-wise. :P

My natural sleep cycle seems to be 4AM to noon, for some odd reason. However, since most jobs and errands require getting up well before noon, I tend to just fall asleep whenever I'm tired, which can be anywhere from 6PM to 2AM depending on how zonked/wired I am. Then I get up between 4AM and 7AM. (I have to be to work at 9AM on the weekdays.)

I find I need 6 to 8 hours sleep... well, at least, that's the amount that leaves me the least tired. (I don't remember feeling refreshed upon getting up ever in my life.) I need at least 4-5 hours sleep... if I know I'd get less than that during a given night for some reason, I'll actually be relatively more alert just by staying up. ("Relatively" being the operative term. :P )

I like routines that help quiet myself before bed.  Usually, I will read a book.  I especially like the James Herriot books [(All Creatures Great and Small)]  because he is a veteranian and helps heal sick animals.  The stories are short and amusing and by reading it before bed it seems to help to limit the amount of weird dreams that I get.  :> LOL

Reading right before I sleep, has the opposite effect on me.

Yonkey

Reading usually puts me to sleep, so the effect on me is either/or.  XD

If you're having trouble with light keeping you awake, why not just buy an eye mask?

I use my old baby blanket, myself. ;] I fold it into a strip and just tuck it around my eyes. Keeps the light out pretty well.

Pretty much nothing helps "prepare" me for bed. My mind never stops thinking, so even if my body's dead tired I just have to lie down and wait until sleep finally overcomes my brain's constant activity. Which is probably why I've always slept so poorly.

I'm also odd in that I'm very seldom able to fall asleep sitting up. I pretty much have to be lying flat in order to fall asleep.

But that would mean I'd have to lift that eye mask to see what hour it is I'm waking. What's also nice is to have complete silence in my room when I want to sleep. Once I'm asleep, I can even sleep through minor earthquakes, it's the getting asleep that's a problem in that category.

Anything serving as an eye mask would have to be attached pretty well, because I tend to move around a lot during sleep.

What works for me, is I start thinking about something that happened to me in the past (something I've watched, or heared or anything else), and usually, after a few minutes I'm asleep. Ofcourse, I don't realize when that thought process ended.

When I'm really tired, I can fall asleep sitting (not up, but sitting nonetheless). Can't sleep in a bus, in a car, or in an airplane, haven't tried sleeping on a boat yet but that's probably impossible as well. In short: when something's moving, I have to be able to watch outside, and when I'm going to sleep, I can't watch outside and thus lose coordination. Usually, I'd have to lie down too though. 8)

I almost always sleep on my stomach and sometimes my side.  I can only doze on my back.  This thread should now be called the "How do I sleep thread"  LOL
