Gaming Illustrated gives it an 81%!

QuoteCognition: An Erica Reed Thriller, Episode One, The Hangman is both a mouthful and a well done, mature point-and-click adventure game. Not without its flaws, it's a sincere title that respects the genre while adding its own stamp to it. With its thoughtful gameplay, quality story telling, unique art style, and moody soundtrack, Cognition successfully immerses the player into the gritty world of Erica Reed. Adventure gamers who have been pining for a game reminiscent of the feel and tone of Gabriel Knight will certainly appreciate Cognition.

Another Ep 1 review is in from Indian Video Gamer, a 7/10!

QuoteThe Hangman is completely driven by its rich plot and dense character build-up; two areas where the game excels. You'd find yourself trying to extract every bit of information/help that each character has to offer in helping you proceed, and with a fair bit of logical thinking too. The game also incorporates the usage of the in-game web/phone/computer very well in aiding your quest.

Another Episode 1 review has popped up from Gamersaurs!

QuoteI'm not going to lie, this game is good, very good - the story is engaging, the puzzles are difficult without being ridiculous... A good point and click adventure, much like a good book, forces you to keep going, to keep playing until you've found the last clue, solved the last puzzle and for better or worse reached the end. Cognition Episode 1 Hangman did all of these things for me. I sat down to start playing in the afternoon and next time I looked away from the screen it was midnight, [and] the credits were rolling...

Two more Episode 1 reviews are in!

From Indie Game Reviewer, a 3.5/5:

QuoteWhile Cognition has a fair amount of substance, its main focus is on puzzle sequences. Gameplay here is familiar to the early Sierra On-Line games such like Police Quest, Kings Quest (understandable, given its studio's raison d'etre.) Cognition, however, offers an interesting twist on the genre as you will often be forced to view your surroundings from an alternate "cognitive state," which gives the situation a little more depth than most games of this type.

And from Dad's Gaming Addiction, another great review:

QuoteOverall, I found my first experience with the series to be a positive one.  The first episode's story was engaging from start to finish and I found it hard to put down. ... The art styles were fantastic, reminding me of something you'd find in a really good comic book.  The puzzles weren't overly difficulty, but they weren't so easy that I didn't have to put my mind to work.  I've been waiting for a game like this for a good, long while and I'm pleased by what I've experienced thus far.  ... If you're in the mood to be swept up by a compelling, interactive mystery story then I highly recommend that you take a look at the "Cognition: An Erica Reed Thriller" series.

Our first Episode 1 iPad review is in from Pocket Tactics, with a 4/5!

QuoteIts main strength lies in creating spaces that cry out for exploration, and in rewarding that exploration with narrative progress. Incidentally that's the strength of all good adventure games, and though it has its faults, I'm pleased to count Cognition among them.

We've also been nominated for Game of the Week in this week's poll from Pocket Gamer on Facebook! Like their page to cast your vote. :)

More Episode 1 iPad reviews are coming in :)

Slide to Play gives it a 3/4!

QuoteThat's why a game like Cognition Episode 1 is such a refreshing experience. It's a thrilling, engrossing adventure game where the solutions usually make sense and you're rarely left with that "What just happened?" feeling. It also has a unique twist that makes it fun.

Pad Gadget gives it a 4/5. :)

QuoteThe puzzles are challenging, but not too difficult to figure out. The plot of the story is riveting. The sound track is creepy and makes you want to hurry up and save the day.

Destructoid has posted their Episode 1 review--a 7.5/10!

QuoteAccompanying the drama and puzzles are some truly gorgeous painted backgrounds rich in detail and character. So often I see the concept art for a game and fall in love, until I see the finished product and wonder how it fell so far. With Cognition, the sort of beautiful concept art I frequently use as a background on my desktop can be found everywhere. Of course, the locations being graveyards, abandoned buildings, filthy bachelor pads and an FBI office don't immediately scream "aesthetically pleasing", but it is, regardless.

Apps Looking gives it a 3.5/5!

Apps Strawberry concurs on the 3.5/5 and adds that we are "DARK AND BROODING" (which we all knew, of course).

And Just Another Gaming Site gives it a 7.5!

QuoteThe story is easily this game's biggest strength. Even though there are a few slower sections in the middle, you will be completely engrossed in Erica's hunt for the serial killer and the mysteries of the main plot. Cognition opens up with a really compelling prologue which plays a big part in setting up the rest of the game. The beautiful soundtrack helps set up the tone of the game and even though it's mostly dark and gloomy, it manages to find a good emotional balance. The Hangman is a good opening episode for a story heavy game.

We've got a few more Episode 1 reviews in :)

Gamers Intuition quite enjoyed the game!

Quote[W]e can sum up Cognition into an adventure game for grown-ups with an engrossing story and intriguing gameplay. Episode 1: The Hangman is not without some flaws, but it's a promising adventure that leaves you shocked, wondering and wanting more right up to the end of the credits.

Polygonien, a German site, gives a positive review.

Hrej.cz, a Czech site, gives Episodes 1 & 2 an 8/10!

Finally, CyberLudus gives Episode 1 a 70/100 in Italian. :)

An iPad review from Gaming Illustrated gives Episode 1 a 73!

QuoteCognition is an old fashioned adventure game in every essence of the word. The controls are intuitive and the interaction with objects and other characters is enjoyable. Cognition though seems a bit "safe" in an age where other titles are pushing the boundaries. For fans of adventure games, Cognition is a great alternative to spend your money on. There's plenty of challenge, loads of puzzles and clues to examine and everything is done nicely.]Cognition is an old fashioned adventure game in every essence of the word.
