Good day,

After the "unlock code" is accepted after the initial launch of the game, I recieve the following message: "Data file not found.  There should be 'CognitionEpisode1_Data'
folder next to the executable." There is infact a folder with this name. I have not moved or modified any of the install files. I am running Windows XP, and according to the demo, I meet the required system parameters. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Which site did you get the game from?

Also (though I do still want to know where it came from so I can see about fixing the problem up front) check in that folder and see if the folder does have the EXACT same name as the executable file. If the file is CognitionEpisode1.exe and the folder is Cognition Episode 1_data then change the spacing in the folder name and make the part before the _data an exact match for the executable file.

That fixed the issue completely it seems. Thank you very much.

For the record, I got this one from the rain retailer. the folder name was Cognition - episode 1_data so a - and a space had to be removed. I thought about that, but I guess I was just really tired last night, because it looked right to me then. Silly me.

Either way it's all good now. So if any of you have this same issue; that's why, and that's how to fix it.

Yeah, I'm getting the exact same issue. Also bought this from Rain.

I tried the renaming trick on the file folder but it doesn't work.

Look at the error message. See EXACTLY what it says the folder SHOULD be called. You need to ensure you rename the data folder to match it EXACTLY. No misspelling, no extra or missing characters. It's very partticular. The data folder appears to have been misnamed which causes the launching of the game to fail.
