Can't visit the Morgue

Title almost says it all. I'm playing with the backers version of Cognition downloaded from the ftp (I use Filezilla).

I've
been back to the crime scene, visited Rose a couple times, went to the office, and visited the graveyard.
(not necessarily in that order). But every time I try to go to the morgue the game locks up on loading. If I play full screen, I have to manually reset the computer as the Windows Task manager doesn't come up on top of Cog.  >_>

I tried uninstalling/re-installing to no avail. Graphics quality setting don't seem to do anything either.
Probably unrelated -> I did notice that the pin with the morgue image was a bit squashed and under the image; unlike the other pins on the map which are round and on top of their respective images.

I'm running Windows 7 and pass the system requirements with flying colors. Any ideas?

Hmmm...  Sorry you're having trouble, Chrury. It's kind of a long shot, but you could try updating your video drivers. There should be a log file in the Cognition - Episode 1_Data folder (on my computer, it's C:\Phoenix Online Studios\Cognition\Cognition - Episode 1\Cognition - Episode 1_Data\output_log.txt). Could you post that file? I don't know if it will help, but it's worth a look.

Updated the video drivers. No change. >_<

I've attached the output_log, as requested. Hopefully there's something there.

Thanks for looking into it.

Definitely odd, the log shows that the scene loads up just fine and doesn't have any errors. What model video card do you have?

QuoteWhat model video card do you have?

I'm running an nVidia GeForce GTX 560. Runs smooth as butter most of the time.

In the shortcut properties for running the game, try adding this to the end of the "target" line:

-force-gfx-st

See if that has any impact.

If not, go ahead and post your most recent save file from before going to the morgue here and I'll make you a save from that right after going in and we'll see if you can load that properly.

Saves can be found in the following paths:

XP:

C:\Documents and Settings\(Username)\Local Settings\Application Data\Phoenix Online Studios\Cognition _ Episode 1

Vista/Win7:

C:\Users\(Username)\AppData\LocalLow\Phoenix Online Studios\Cognition _ Episode 1

No change. >_<

Here's my most recent save. My previous save has the same problem but I originally thought there was some logic issue (you must collect McGuffin A & B before heading to the morgue. or something), so I went and visited everywhere else first. This save is after that and possibly before returning to the crime scene.

I've also attached a cropped screenshot of the map from this save. See how the pin is squashed and under the morgue thumbnail? Does that happen on your end or is it just my comp?

snabbott

Ummm... there aren't any attachments. :-\

Yeah there's no attachments to that post, and yeah the button thing is just a general texture oddity, I see that too. I'm positive that has no bearing on the morgue not loading up properly on your end.

I'm getting this when trying to post with the .sav attached.

QuoteNot Acceptable

An appropriate representation of the requested resource /blog/forum/index.php could not be found on this server.

Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.

I must've copy-pasted my message after an error and forgot to try the attachment again. I could try changing it to a .txt if that works?

wilco64256

Yeah try changing the file extension to txt for the posting.

C'mon you! post already!

Edit: AH-HAH! I'm going to guess that the forum's code can't handle either spaces or apostrophes in attachment filenames. I had to rename it from "003_don't break now.txt" to "003_dont_break_now.txt" to get it to work.

Pardon my {bump}.
Testing the .sav attachment. Renamed for the forums of course.

Edit 2: Yep, it was the file name not the file type that was causing my posting issue. Carry on

wilco64256

Alright drop this file in that folder and try loading it up, let's see what happens here.

Aight. So the sav file you sent over locked up the same as mine did. Just without the map travel step.
So I did the only logical thing and completely re-downloaded; this time from the direct link instead of ftp. And wouldn't you know the thing actually worked. >_> Which is the oddest thing as there was no error or apparent missing bytes in the transfer.

Tried from your save and my save and it looks like I can go freely to and from the morgue. Case closed, as it were. I'll let you know on the off chance things go south.

tldr: direct download works, ftp download doesn't for some reason. For me anyway. :/

That's extremely strange but fixed is fixed so we'll call this one a win.

That's very strange. I'm glad you were able to get it working, though. :D

I would like to relate to this problem if I may, as I have similar issue, but unfortunately the save file doesn't work for my game.

I have checked output log file and it has shown me some problems with loading morgue part. Let me copy paste that part.

QuoteLevel 'Morgue_ExaminationRoom' (24) couldn't be loaded because it has not been added to the build settings.
To add a level to the build settings use the menu File->Build Settings...

Where did you get your copy of the game?

The OP seems to have just had some issues downloading and unpacking the game the first time, a re-download and re-install worked there, have you tried that?
