Yeah, so I just got back from the midnight premiere of Skyfall in IMAX (I guess IMAX gets the movie a day early or something), and omg that movie was amazing. So much better than Quantum of Solace. So many references to past bond movies, plus a rather big cast change for the series going forward. If anyone has seen Skyfall, this is the thread to discuss it. As usual, all spoiler-laden discussions go inside spoiler tags. By the looks of things, Bond 24 could be an interesting movie, to say the least.

I saw it and thought it was brilliant! Top marks for the villain: his writing, his acting, he was just psychologically gripping all the time.

My one complaint was Eve. She was clearly meant to have a banter-y relationship with Bond but it... always felt very forced. But she was only a small part of the film.

Oh, and this was kind of Judi Dench's film. And she didn't disappoint.

Yeah, it was definitely Judi's film. The villain was more focused on her than on Bond. I liked that, for once, the villain doesn't have world domination plans or anything like that. It's a revenge story above all else. For a 50th anniversary, I'd say Skyfall was a great anniversary movie. So many nods to previous films. Even the Aston Martin was a nod to bond's past!

I like what I'm hearing!  I've always been a Bond fan, and I thought Quantum of Solace was a little plodding - so it's good to hear you guys saying such cool stuff about it.  I'll be seeing it this weekend.

Let us know what you think of it, blackthorne. I definitely think it was one of the better ones. Craig makes a great bond, if given a good script.

Oh yes, this is orders of magnitude better than QoS. I liked bits of that film but, as a whole, it reminded me of the nonsense-plot rip-roaring-adventure-with-no-basis-in-reality of Pierce Brosnan. Not a fan.

You expect basis in reality in a James Bond film?  If you even try to think about the physics laws broken in this movie, you will go insane.  As for this film, I have two words: Mutating Code.

Anyway, we just got back from seeing it.  It was awesome.  Loved Q, the use of lighting was amazing (lights from the jellyfish sign actually shielding Bond from view in the reflection of the glass, the way fire makes the whole scene look orange and barely accents the silhouettes of the characters, and the Skyfall song intro), and...
I actually cried at the end.
Reality in a James Bond movie? The beginning of Casino Royale has a free-running sequence that completely defies the laws of physics. No one can climb a metal girder at that angle that fast... It's physically impossible...
i wasn't crying at the end, but I was upset, to say the least. I'm gonna miss M. I'm definitely interested in seeing where the franchise is headed though. They just changed a lot of stuff up with M's death and the destruction of MI6.
Maybe realism wasn't the right word. Still, I'd rather have an overly enthusiastic free-running sequence, a collapsing Venetian house and motorbikes on rooftops than an exploding pen and an invisible car.

INVISIBLE CAR.

Though I will admit that the code stuff, while very clever from a narrative point of view, was really very silly from a coding point of view.

Skyfall was the only Bond movie I've actually sat down and watched all the way through, and I was quite impressed. As already mentioned though, I realized we were throwing all rationale out the window once the motorcycles hit the rooves. And I literally had to stop myself from laughing out loud when he said that the code was mutating. But otherwise, I really liked it. By the end,
purely because of her acting and script delivery, I ended up with an emotional attachment to M, despite not having seen any of the other movies, and so was actually very moved when she died.
Oh, and regarding the code: at least they didn't pull an NCIS. -_-
So what if I am, huh? Anyways, I work better when I'm drunk. It makes me fearless! If I see a bad guy, I'll just point my sword at him and saaaaaaaaaay, "Hey! Bad guy! You're not s'posed to be here! Go home or I'll stick you with my sword 'til you go, 'Ouch! I'm dead!' Ah-ha-ha!" Ha-ha. *hic* See? Ain't no one gonna be messin' wit' ol', Benny!

What about the time that they had Abby and McGee both typing.... on the same keyboard....
