Digimon on DVD

So I've been on a Digimon kick, having had mixed feelings about the end of Xros Wars II, so I decided to go back and re-watch all of the seasons and movies in Japanese. I'm currently a few episodes away from the end of Season 1.
Coincidentally, as I was strolling through Wal-Mart the other day, my eyes happened to fall upon this: Surprise!

After picking my jaw up of the floor and grabbing one, I went home and hopped on good ol' Google. And much to my amazement:

Surprise 2

and

Surprise 3

I'm quite shocked; I didn't think Digimon would ever make it onto DVD (save for Data Squad, which I knew Disney had at least started releasing) outside of the well-packaged bootlegs that are floating around out there.
It should also be noted that these only contain the censored English dub, unfortunately. Predictable, but disappointing.

Also worth noting is that you can actually purchase Season 3 in Japanese on Amazon Instant Video, as well as Season 1 in English (guessing from the episode titles). However, both seasons seem to have a couple of episodes missing, for some reason.

Anyway, just wanted to share this knowledge with anyone else who might be interested; I had no idea this was happening, so I figure there may be other interested parties (*cough*DD*cough*) who also have no idea.
So what if I am, huh? Anyways, I work better when I'm drunk. It makes me fearless! If I see a bad guy, I'll just point my sword at him and saaaaaaaaaay, "Hey! Bad guy! You're not s'posed to be here! Go home or I'll stick you with my sword 'til you go, 'Ouch! I'm dead!' Ah-ha-ha!" Ha-ha. *hic* See? Ain't no one gonna be messin' wit' ol', Benny!

I want to buy Season 1 on DVD; unfortunately none of the sellers seem to ship to the UK.

Really? Hmm. If you want, I could buy it and have it shipped to me, then send it to you.

Would there be DVD region issues?

Oh yeah...the DVD is Region 1, the UK is Region 2.

I already have season 1 coming for Christmas, and I'm going to pre-order season 2 soon. Oh, and I don't know if you're aware of this, but Disney no longer owns Digimon; it's back with Saban, which is one of the reasons why the DVD set came out. And, a dub of Xros Wars is coming! It's an exciting time to be a Digimon fan!

Ah, that explains it! Well, sort of. I would tend to think that Saban would have pushed for a "proper" (i.e., Japanese/English) DVD release, but apparently not.

I hadn't heard of an English dub for Xros Wars, but I'm seeing some stuff on Google now. And I'm.....not extremely excited.
But hey, at least we're getting it in English, which is cool. It means that they haven't given up on it. But I'll bet it's going to be heavily edited again.
Also, Mikey. Great.

Speaking of dubs, while I was looking for info on this, I found a fandub of a scene from Xros Wars that's pretty impressive. Check it out.

Yeah, the dub doesn't look fantastic, especially with the edits they've already made. I'm not fond of the names changes, and I'm not particularly fond of the voices, but I'm stil happy to be getting a dub of Xros Wars. I think Digimon still has enormous untapped potential here in the states that Disney just chose to ignore. My hope now is that Tamers will get a DVD release. Considering Adventure 01 and 02 are out and coming out, respectively, it would seem logical that Tamers (and presumably Frontier) would follow suit. Years back, there was apparently an american made Digimon season in the works called Digimon D3 or some such; I can't remember the exact name, but it was something along those lines. anyway, if the Xros Wars dub does well here in America, and considering there don't appear to be any future Japanese seasons on the horizon, Saban could theoretically try to invest in an american-made version. Either way, I'm glad to see Digimon coming back over here. Also, as an aside, this warms my heart just a little: there are these two little kids that come into my gamestop on occasion, and they're obsessed with Digimon. I'm talking like 5-10 years old, if that. They apparently come in to see me, the "adult who likes digimon". to see young children interested in a show that I grew up watching is kind of neat.

Enchantermon, I'll check out that fan dub scene in a minute. my curiosity has been piqued.

Yeah, I hope we'll see Tamers and Frontier soon, and the rest of the movies as well (which, as I recall, weren't that bad in English).

I don't know how I'd feel about an American-made Digimon. On one hand, yay, more Digimon! But on the other, I've been very unimpressed with American cartoons lately, especially when compared to some of the stuff that used to be on, things that actually had substance to them (Beast Wars, Doug and Recess come to mind).
Then again, it was around that same era that we got the dubs of Adventure 01 and 02 and all of their Digi-jokes and campy dialogue, as well as the mashed-up English dub of the first three movies. :P

Ah, yes, the movies. Those were actually really good in English, and Id love to see them on DVD. And I'd like it if we could get a dub of Digimon X-Evolution: The Thirteenth Royal Knight. It's the only movie that, to my knowledge at least, has not yet been dubbed. This might be asking for too much, but i would be ecstatic to have some of the manga get officially translated. V-Tamer and Digimon NEXT come to mind. The scanlations were great, and I'd love to have those be opened up to a wider audience.

Ah! Yes, Digimon X-Evolution would be cool; I had forgotten about that. The Savers movie hasn't been dubbed either; I wonder if anything will come of that. It's wildly out of continuity, though (but then, so were most of movies), so who knows.
The manga would be sweet, too. I know Digimon existed in print form in the US, but I think it was all US-created stuff.

I'm going to go on record and say that I actually liked the Tamers manga that came out in the U.S. Yes, it's really just the anime condensed into 4 volumes, but I enjoyed it regardless. But yeah, seeing the other manga in the U.S. would be awesome. V-Tamers needs to be read by everyone, because it's that awesome. I mean, how could you *not* love an alternate universe prequel to Adventure 01. At least, I think that's what V-Tamers is. It's been quite some time since I've read it, and I never actually got around to finishing it.

I never actually finished Savers, in either sub or dub form; it's something I've been meaning to do. The Tamers movies were really good though, especially the dubs; they did a surprisingly good job on those. I had them all recorded on VHS' somewhere, and I have them on my external harddrive, ready to watch at the press of a button.

Savers is pretty good. Data Squad isn't bad (well, except for Citramon -_-), but I've only seen it once all the way through because I got irritated by all of the Jetix ads. :P I think I watched Savers twice. I'll be glad when all of Data Squad comes out on DVD so I can watch it without all the Jetix crap.

wait, disney did their usual half-assed DVD release crap? lovely. nothing irritates me more than half-assed DVD release. if you can't commit to the entire series, then just don't bother.

Yeah, they've only released 26 episodes so far. But now that Saban owns Digimon again, I don't know what effect that will have on Well Go's distribution.

Well I'd say Saban owning the franchise again is good all around. We're finally getting the DVD releases we've been waiting for for years, and we're getting a dub of Xros Wars. My question is whether or not Japan will get another season. I'd love it if they do, but I haven't heard anything on another season.

Before I share my thoughts on that: have you finished the The Boy Hunters Who Leap Through Time?

No, but from my understanding, that's the ending arc of Xros Wars and involves some, if not all, of the past goggle heads to return. No spoilers though, please. I have a feeling that them bringing the previous leaders back was an attempt to sort of finalize the franchise in a way.

I have a multi-region DVD player.  Got a looooooooad of imported DVDs in my collection since we don't get the cool 90's cartoons boxsets you get over there.  Might take you up on your offer sometime though if I can't get it shipped my way otherwise, thanks! :)

All that I'll say then is that from the way it ended, it gave me the feeling that they're done. But it really could go either way.
