Gene Roddenberry's Andromeda

It's probably no secret that I'm a die-hard Trekkie. I mean, own the majority of the franchise on DVD and blu-ray and watch it continuously. But Gene Roddenberry (the man who created Star Trek) also created several other shows. One such show is Andromeda. I had seen several episodes on TV back in the day, and I just got the complete series imported from Australia (it's a region 0 DVD set, so it should work with all DVD and blu-ray players in every region). For those unaware, here's a quick synopsis I've whipped up: the systems commonwealth is an organization protecting the galaxy (much like starfleet and the federation from Star Trek), but when one race in the commonwealth betrays it and overthrows the organization, one ship, the Andromeda Ascendant gets caught in a black hole, frozen in time for 300 years. When the ship finally unfreezes, captain Dylan Hunt finds himself in a galaxy on the brink of collapse. The commonwealth has been destroyed, and he is the last remnant of its greatness. Now he sets out to restore the commonwealth and protect the galaxy again.

It's a pretty bad synopsis, but whatever. It gets the basic idea across. Has anyone seen Andromeda before? I'm currently watching through it, so any plot heavy discussion should go in spoiler tags.

The problem with Andromeda is that unfortunately one of the lead writers left the show (I think it was mid-season 2, not sure), and thus A LOT of the plot elements from the earlier show just get sort of dropped... and then they try to kludge it all together in the last season or so which unfortunately feels really awkward and jarring. :-\

No, plot elements, just meta-discussion of what went wrong with the series ;P... and hey, maybe you'll find that it works for you.

Well so far I'm only midway through season 1, so I'm nowhere near that part. I know it got cancelled (at least I'm pretty sure it did), but I'd like to see the series through to the end. It's a lot different than Star Trek, but I like that. It has more of a quirky feel to it, whereas Star Trek is more serious.

It wasn't cancelled. :) But--it did get a kind of rushed ending. :-\

oh, so it ended on it's own terms? well, I guess that's good. Like I said, I'm only in season 1 right now, so I have a lot to watch lol. It's interesting so far.

Oops! Yes, that.

"What's a Paladin?" Indeed.

The only time that line is a legitimately plausible question is when Marcus thinks it in my QFG1 fanfic, because this HAS been the first time he's heard of one (his father was one when he died) and he wants to learn more.
