This truth is not so shocking... I've been to both websites and read all that stuff before 8)

I'm not sure what you're trying to prove here.
It doesn't really matter if Roberta knew about the Black Cloak Sociaty, or if it was Jane's idea and she added it into the final script without telling her. The fact remains, that the Black Cloak Sociaty WAS mentioned in KQ6, therefore it is a part of the KQ series just as much as everything else in it.

I don't see why you think it's a "mistake" KQ9 has to "rectify" - after all, Jane Jensen was KQ6's co-designer, and everything she added to the game is just as valid as what Roberta did. I don't see what's confusing about it either - sure, the KQs didn't expand much on the BCS, but that wasn't confusing - it just left an opening for fans to develop their own theories on the matter, one of which you can find in AGDI's KQ2+, and another in KQ9 ;)

Uhm. Seeing as how AFAIK Roberta made KQ5 by herself, having the BCS there can't be a mistake. ;)

And Storm's right, whether Roberta intended it or not, the BCS was mentioned in KQ6, therefore it is *now* canon in the universe, whether it was mentioned in previous games or not. Until an official Sierra KQ game is made that explicitly retcons the BCS out of existence, it's fair game. ;)

I don't see the BCS and the Father as "confusing" players, I see it as an attempt by the respective writers to form the games into a more cohesive whole, as opposed to being somewhat disparate as they are now. Plus they're just really interesting.

Not to mention the BCS helped provide a bit more of a backstory for Alhazred taking over the Green Isles as opposed to just "He was power-hungry."

The BCS was mentioned only as, I think, a society of dakr wizards in KQ5, but not given a name. It was later named the Black Cloak Society in KQ6. And as said, once it appeared, it's there, and it's fact, or "cannon" (the term that gets used in fan-RPGs I play in based off of novels). Cannon meaning it's in the cannon literature, or in this, the cannon games.

I also have some trouble believing that they were an 'accident.' After all, I'm sure Jane Jensen didn't have that recording suddenly shoved in at the last second before they released the game! The script would've gone through editing & read-throughs before it was programmed or recorded. It may have been Jensen's idea to name them and include them as backstory, but that doesn't mean it was an 'accident.'

As for why they weren't mentioned in 1-4? Well, quite frankly, I'm sure the idea hadn't occurred to anyone yet. 1 and 2 were more or less treasure hunts without a whole lot of backstory or deeply developed plots. But later on, as the plots got more involved and the series had some history to it, it was quite easy to say, 'Oh and there are these bad guys in this society. Yeah, that works!' You may as easily ask why Mannanan never said he had a brother named Mordack, but that doesn't make Mordack a mistake.

Without them being mentioned at all? KQ9 would just have a different plotline that didn't involve the BCS. We're doing to tie up loose storylines, give a good satisfactory conclusion to the series (in our estimation, of course). The BCS was there, and so we're using them in it.
