Alexander was such a whiny, naive douchenozzle, I felt like foisting him upon Cassima was a crime, so I never beat the game on purpose.

His relationship with Cassima was somewhat... sudden. I beat it when I was about ten so that never bothered me. XD

In all seriousness I think trying to imprint character traits outside of "good person" onto KQ characters is tricky.

Alexander's favorite word: Zounds!

Funny fact: that's actually really funky blasphemy. :P It's a contraction of "God's wounds" (so it should actually be pronounced "zoonds"), and swearing by any part of God's body was generally frowned upon in the middle ages/Renaissance. :P

I like the implication that you accidentally beat KQ6.

Of course it was an accident!!!   :h_kingme:

You accidently dropped a sword on Al Hazred's head. Honest mistake.

Have you ever held a sword?  You know how easy those are to accidentally drop on someone's head?  Just ask Ser Ilyn Payne!

Illyn Payne IS scary as hell.

You know, an old school adventure game based on GoT would be pretty fun, I think.

It could be pretty cool.

There's a GoT social game that's coming out soon that supposedly incorporates the social aspects--you can backstab friends, etc. I'm curious to try it out when it releases.

At this point, I think I'd swallow anything remotely GoT related. o.0

An RPG came out not long ago. It got pretty bad reviews everywhere except RPS, who said that it was basically a diamond in the rough. I still really want to try it.

KQ6 was the first adventure game I played, actually. Played it together with my older brother while we were visiting our aunt once as kids. Replayed it back a few years ago, and loved it still. Tried several of the KQs too, but I really didn't find them as good or interesting as KQ6.

Well ... That's Jane Jensen for you, I guess.

I also think it has some fantastic locations which are realised with more depth and logic than the typical KQ "just cram some fairytales in there and see what happens" logic. See, for example, the Land of the Dead, Winged Ones culture and the fact that Alhazred is somewhat more complex as a villain than the typical "I am an evil wizard/fairy!" stances of Lolotte, Manannan and Mordack.

I also liked the number of optional puzzles and puzzles with multiple solutions, such as the nightingale thing and whose hair you use to complete a spell. I think this is the direction adventure games should be trying to go, even if KQ6 only did baby-steps.

I also like the fact that most of KQ6 takes place in the same islands. While you do explore and find new locations, there's never a complete change of scene such as Graham's move to the mountains or to the beach/islands in KQ5. Instead, you probe steadily deeper into each location. I'm not sure why I find this pleasing, though.
All of this except I wouldn't categorize Mordack as the "standard evil fairy/wizard" -- he's in it for revenge because of his brother. I mean, yes, he's also a standard evil wizard but he's the first villain we get who has like a thought-out, realistic reason that's explained to us for doing what he's doing. He's not as complex as Alhazred but I think we have to give him more credit than say Hagatha?

How is Alhazred "complex"? He's not some tortured soul who's evil but doesn't want to be. He's just a power hungry Vizier in a vaguely Arabic Kingdom. That's pretty standard fairy tale stuff. Not all that complex.

Alexander is a wimp.

I am kind of surprised by this as well.  The guy made Death cry, I think he wins the award for most BA royal family member.

That would make an interesting thread. :P

He's power hungry, yes.
But was Hagatha power hungry? What exactly were her motives? What were Dahlia's motives? What was Manannan's motives? There's literally nothing in the games to tell you. And even in the manuals there isn't much.
And Lolotte? We get "she's jealous of Genesta" for her motive. That's it. She's jealous.

Now Mordack, we know what he wants. He was to cure his brother from a spell, or get revenge on the one who cast it. That's solid. What Mordack is lacking is a "why now?" Like seriously, why didn't he swoop in right away with this?

Alhazred on the other hand, we have a clear motive. We have clear plan he's enacting. And we even have a "why now?" in that his scheme just took forever to accomplish, and then he had to do some fast re-planning when Cassima came back. And even know he was power hungry and evil, it took the whole game to fully piece together his plans.
You don't have to be a tortured anti-villain to be complex. You just have to be relatively realistic.
