I don't know if any of you are familiar with Echo Bazaar, but the creators of it released this awesome new tool in October of last year:

You can create your own choose-your-own adventure type stories and even choose to get paid! For those not familiar, the general premise is that you are limited to 100 actions at a time that slowly regenerate over time. You perform these actions by choosing cards from the deck or from "pinned" cards that change depending on the scene. You can increase your stats, which can include anything from Brains to Power to Crotcheting. You can also increase your status or progress through different storylines. There's a chance to pass or fail many of the actions. Basically, they figured out how to merge text adventures and D+D into a card game!

heh, I had never heard of this, sounds like a great idea, so simple in theory but it had certainly never crossed my mind

Yes! I've been meaning to play around with the StoryNexus tools for ages, but have never had time.

What I especially love about these games is that you "have" all of these things at a given time. So, most obviously, you might have two jars of illusionist's honey or a branch from the weeping tree. That's fairly standard.

But you might also "have" a melancholy disposition and a sweet tooth. You might draw a random event card in which you have a nightmare about a great beast stalking a ruined city, and because you have a hatred of dogs you'll be able to attack it, but if you fail it'll bite you in the dream world and give you the mark of the beast.

I really like these games.

Looks pretty neat! I've been fiddling around with Maelstrom all day. Kinda annoying when you get hooked, and NEED MOAR ACTIONS NOW DAMMIT!, but pretty fun nonetheless. Would love to try 'n write something.

Haha yeah, it's a devious way for them to get more money. Useful tho because it helps control server load.
