Who else here has played both 999 and Zero Escape: Virtue's Last Reward? The second game ended on quite the cliffhanger and I'm anxious to see what happens next!!!
The multiple timeline explanation really threw my brain for a loop... I'm really curious to see how they'll resolve it!
Both games are excellent.  I probably preferred Zero Escape with the exception of the cliffhanger part.  The main thing I wonder is
exactly what reason they will come up with to make yet another Nonary game and I'm assuming you will be playing new characters since the heroes in Zero Escape have discovered their abilities fairly comprehensively by the end, so naturally who those characters are and how they relate to the Zero Escape storyline is key
.
But I thought they made it clear that they have to go back in time to fix a Nonary Game gone horribly wrong?
Also I simply loved being able to hop between alternate decisions so easily. :D I wish I had that kind of capability in other branching decision tree style games.

YES. This is seriously one of my favorite game series ever. The puzzles are so engaging and the characters are fantastic and the plot actually wraps itself up at the end. I don't mind the cliffhanger in VLR. It's not all that usual for the second game in a pre-approved trilogy to end up being a bridge between the two endpoints and I'm excited to see where it goes.
Did they make that clear? I know they had to stop the creation of Radical 6, but was that during a Nonary game?
Wish had played them, but I don't even own a DS.

thought, between the 3DS games and the DS backlog I'm really interested in picking up a 3DS, always wanted to try Etrian Oddysey

These games sound really good but I've never heard of them! What are they?

It's all about escaping by solving room puzzles and forming relationships with people. :D

Ooh, there are interpersonal relationships involved? Yay! I assumed it was all room-escape puzzles. :D

Yup! The second game is much deeper on that level than the first one actually. But it's really fun to learn about the different "players" in each game. :)

It's very visual-novel-like in its relationships, so it's much less about making them as it is about watching them unfold, but every bit of the plot delivers. So good. <3

I've played a few visual novels and was impressed by how they manage to deliver satisfying stories that centre around relationships. Because... well frankly, most games don't do that too well.

There was a really great talk at AdventureX in December which suggested adventure game designers merge the tactility of the world you get with adventure games/puzzle mechanics with the interpersonal relationships/choices that have consequences of visual novels. It's a good idea, I think.
My interpretation was that they had to go back in time to stop the Radical 6 virus from being released at the Mars test site in Nevada, which was full of traps(that causes Sigma's loss of eye and arms), which does imply a Nonary Game setting.  However, it's not clear why Radical 6 was released, nor if it is a Nonary Game.  My thinking is that the terrorist group Free The Soul somehow gets into the facility and releases the virus.  All you know for certain is that Sigma and Phi failed to stop the release in one of their attempts for whatever reason, and Kyle is necessary as an "uncontrolled variable" to somehow change things.
