nuh-huh, Sega Genesis is awesome!

Unless you realllly like Sonic.  The SNES is better hardware wise.

And just in case you didn't see it the first times, Super Metroid!
I actually don't really like Sonic, to be honest.

And even hardware wise it is somewhat arguable. in terms of graphics and sounds the SNES was superior no doubt, but games on the Genesis would run much smoother.

Super Street Fighter 2 for example was much smoother on the Genesis as opposed to the SNES version which suffered from slowdown and the occasional input lag.

But that was nothing compared to the SNES infamous line of SHMUPS, many of them would slowdown to a crawl and even those that didn't were never quite as fluid as Thunder Force 3 or MUSHA

and while I think Super Metroid is an amazing game, it's still just one game.

And while the Genesis didn't have any games resembling Super Metroid,  The snes didn't really have anything similar to say Herzog Zwei, which is a mix of a top down shooter and RTS and was in fact the game that inspired Westwood to create Dune 2, the father of the RTS genre

I had a Genesis, and it had Shining Force 1 and 2. And I really liked Sonic, mostly playing as Tails in Sonic 2.

So I'll vote Genesis!

Crusader of Centy, Phantasy Star 2, Phantasy Star 4, Shining Force, Shining Force 2, Shadowrun, Pier Solar :P

And besides, that's just the RPG/action adventure. Where the Genesis really shined was on its Arcade and fast paced games.

I loved its SHMUPS.

Oh and I always though Contra and Castlevania for the Genesis was better than the SNES' but that's just me

KatieHal

I never finished SF2--probably because I was renting it and didn't own it. I should get an emulator or something and fix that at some point. :)

Honestly, I always considered Castlevania IV as one of the weakest old school entries in the series, Castlevania Bloodlines for the Genesis, Rondo of Blood for the PC engine and Castlevania 3 for the NES are better in just about every way except graphics.

also: have you actually PLAYED Doom and Wolf 3D on the SNES? those versions are abominable to say the least

The other games are good, thank god the Genesis has better games  8)

Need I remind you that the SNES has, among other things...Blackthorne?  :o

That right there is what Blackthorne looks like in real life. And there's a game about him. The plot thickens...
I have no mouth, and I must scream.

Blackthorne

Man, I've let myself go.

Heh.

A lot of good games being mentioned here.... nice call on Shadowrun.

I really love both systems.... but I definitely prefer the SNES.  This is why I love emulators, though.... I have them all at my fingertips!

Both consoles were and are still amazing.

It's a shame that collecting for the SNES has become so expensive though

I'm now watching an LP of Shining Force and having flashbacks to some of my better middle school times. This was I think the first console video I finished entirely on my own! First RPG certainly. I was so into this game. :)  It's relatively simple strategy mechanics were pretty much exactly at the level of detail I could appreciate--and honestly, I'd probably still happily prefer simple mechanics like that even now, hehe.

I dunno, I feel shining force 2 was better in every way :P

and I do love games like Fire Emblem for the GBA, I feel a nice variety is the best option. Oh by the way, did you know there's a shining force remake for the GBA, Katie?

I love the fact you guys are having a console-war over consoles that some here may not have even been old enough to play. :P It makes me very happy.

Then this should make you positively giddy.

This was my first console:

And for a few brief shining moments, I was the world record holder on Space Invaders.

Man was my hand tired.
