Anyone else see this? I thought it was extremely well done, in some ways even better than the previous one. Acting was great by all, and JJ Abrams has further made his mark as a true visionary of our time.

For those who have seen it, what do you think of the points made in the above article?  I'm curious.  I haven't seen it, but I don't care about spoilers (obviously, since I read the article and it's full of them.)  :)

I can't click on yet, haven't seen the movie (I'm not even sure if it's already reached Portuguese Theaters).

But I fully expect it to have a lot of stuff that makes no sense, I really liked the previous Star Trek movie, but let's be honest, as awesome as it was, it was a popcorn flick, it's the sort of movie you can't think too much about (the same goes for a lot of the super hero movies out there)

Exactly. If you want a movie that requires a lot of thinking, go watch Primer. I highly recommend it, even though I still don't completely understand it.

I saw this yesterday and really enjoyed. It's been a looooong time since I saw the particular Star Trek movie it was doing its own version of (being vague so as not to spoil things), but I remember the big plot points and I thought they put twists on those in some pretty good ways. I did think they could've not done that big cameo to steer the plot, but I get why they would and it made sense for the crew to call upon that person, I just would've rather they reached those conclusions on their own.

Overall, yep, I'm still liking the rebooted Star Trek! Though as a friend of mine said, I do hope the next movie has a totally original plot instead of doing a new version of an old favorite again.

That's not the kind of "thinking" I or the article above was referring to.  Star Trek, as a franchise, has always been about creating a plausible vision of the future, with logical ideas and science that *almost* could work in real life.  There's a respect for logic that has always been a major part of the franchise--but is completely abandoned in the reboots.

Blackthorne

That article is someone thinking WAY too much about the film.

Go into just expecting some fun.  It was awesome that way.  Sometimes examining every minute detail of something just ruins the whole experience.  In the end, it's entertainment - nothing more.  If you must explore every detail of entertainment and you require it all to make absolutle, 100% perfect sense, you're not going to enjoy much!

I liked it.  It was good, clean, big, beautiful, explosion-y, summer movie fun.  Really - very different than original Trek, granted - but we established that with the 2009 film.  So I just went with it, and watched Benedict Cumberbatch chew the scenery around everyone and rock that film.

I liked the first Abrams movie, this movie was terrible and I am kind of mad I spent money on it.

And it is not like I have high standards for Trek, basically none of the movies makes sense, but on top of being nonsensical the movie was boring, stupid, and offensive to the character of Khan.

Knew what? :P The Khan fakeout? I confess to trying to kid myself, mostly because I really, really didn't want Khan's whitewashing to be a reality.

No, I knew theorized that this was based on Wrath of Khan due to the posts here. So am I right?

This is a pretty small community, we really shouldn't be hostile.
