I've played all the Space Quest games and all the Monkey Island games. As much as I love Space Quest, I still gotta say the Monkey Island games are funnier, though.

I never played any MI games and only a couple of SQs... but I too must say MI has to be funnier, if only by the sheer amount of people mentioning how funny it is

Anyhoo. SQ would have been better if it had stronger plots, rather than just being an excuse to string random puzzles and gags together. Monkey Island had coherent storylines and unique puzzles and jokes going for it, among other things. IMHO the only SQ that approaches MI in quality is SQ5. (Mainly because in SQ5 they actually decided to write a cohesive *game* instead of just a goofy hodge-podge.)
