So I saw Man of Steel two weeks ago (yes I know I was late to the party), thought it was a decent movie, mostly because I was warned it didn't really follow the comic books and a friend of mine recommend it I view it as an Elseworlds comic.

Anyway, it seems that instead of getting a Justice League movie, we're not getting a Batman vs. Superman movie. What are people's expectations for this? Am I the only thinking under the current movie continuity Supes will crush Batman?

Don't get me wrong, I love Batman (I like him much better than Batman) but Nolan's Batman is NOT the world's greatest detective, heck, after watching the Dark Knight Rises... he's of average intelligence if you ask me.

Thoughts?

I keep getting the feeling that these latest movies just make Batman and Superman as stand ins for Jesus.  Heck, the dialogue sounds more like it's from the Bible rather than how people actually speak.  So maybe this next one will be Jesus vs. Jesus?

Also, I'm terrified with what they're going to do with Wonder Woman.
I have my cake and eat it too, until it's gone.  Then I can't do either.

Aww!  You have the Sword of Hugging +3!  All of your attacks deal affectionate damage!

Yeah, I haven't heard good things about MOS. Mostly that it's boring.

How could you?! How could you like Batman better than Batman?!

Anyway, I too heard that Man of Steel was mediocre at best. What I heard was that the third act of the movie was really, really stupid. Again, this is just what I've heard, and I can't testify to it myself. But I don't think DC has had a very good run with its superhero films. Some of the Batman films are good, and the first two Superman films are considered to be really good, but the rest?...eh, whatever.

I don't think people have high hopes for Batman vs. Superman. Also, this is a rebooted version of Batman, NOT the Nolan Batman, who started out pretty good in Batman Begins and just made worse and worse choices--while becoming less and less important--as the movies went along. Also, I found The Dark Knight Rises to be completely idiotic, and one of the worst movie theater experiences I've ever had.

As for portraying the superheros as being Christlike...knock it the f**k off, DC. Batman is not Jesus, and anyone who thinks otherwise is a creepy obsessed fangirl who will never contribute to society. Superman is a little closer, but the symbolism is still insulting.

I'm a very cold and unforgiving man, if you haven't noticed.

Man of Steel is a decent film.  It lacks heart in my view and some of the plot points are dumb/rely on a character being there at the perfect time, but the action in it is pretty impressive, the soundtrack is good, and Henry Cavill is strong as Superman, as well as Russell Crowe as Jor-El.  I'd put the film basically on par with Batman Begins, which to me is about a 3.5 out of 5 type movie.  I think a lot of people came into the film with high expectations for a great film, and it's not that.  However, it is certainly decent.

As to Superman vs Batman, it's probably going to be like the World's Finest animated feature.  Both will be mildly antagonistic towards each other at the start and eventually unite to stop some threat.  Also, while Henry Cavill's Superman is confirmed, the Batman in question is up for debate(except for that it won't be Bale), and as such can be reinvented more easily as a detective.

Haha! You know what I meant. I like Batman over Superman :P

Personally I thought Man of Steel was a good movie (you may crucify me now!) but I also thought it was a bad superman movie.

I did love Batman Begins and the Dark Knight, but my God, The Dark Knight rises was baaaaaaad. I was so hyped for it, but it was terrible

That actually applies to a lot of super hero movies, they did it for Spider-man 2 as well (Sam Reimi's spiderman)

But on ham of steel (haha just wrote that completely by mistake, but I'm keeping it) they REALLY hammered it in. Even Clark's father kept saying Clark was basically Jesus

I also haven't seen MOS, and DKR did have some....issues.

But, Batman vs. Superman is a classic comic question: who would win? Because Superman has the obvious advantages. But there's even a comic that's been out for quite some time that has this exact fight and it's both very worth reading and may surprise you, so I won't spoil the answer to the question as presented in that comic. ("The Dark Knight Falls" is the title for it, if you want to read it. Part of the "Batman: Dark Knight" collection.)

The link Gonz posted doesn't seem to directly reference that comic, but it does say Snyder is consulting with Frank Miller, who wrote that particular collection. Them looking for an older actor for Batman supports the idea, as Batman is more on in years in that story as well.

I honestly believe that all the praise TDKR got upon its initial release was just a knee-jerk reaction from people either wanting to like it, or believing that they would be considered stupid if they didn't like it. Barely anybody took a step back and said, "Y'know, guys, that plot line sucked," or "That dialogue was awful." Both of which are absolutely true. The villain's evil plot made zero sense, for obvious reasons when you look back at the movie's third act, and the dialogue, well...

Daggett: You dumb b*tch.
Catwoman: Nobody ever accused me of being dumb.
Daggett: You're dumb.

Also...

Bane: So, you came back to die with your city?
Batman: No...I CAME BACK TO STOP YOU!

People are going to look back and laugh at this movie, just like they did with Avatar (although to be fair, I thought Avatar was retarded before people jumped on the "it's popular so it sucks" bandwagon). Now all we need to do is wait for some butthurt batfan to come in here and yell at us and tell us we're stupid for not worshiping TDKR as the Holy Grail of cinema like they do, because obviously, their intelligence level is much higher than we simpletons can comprehend.

Yes, I've met people like this, not just on my Facebook feed, but in real life. They are psycho.

I have a problem with Frank Miller being a consultant, I mean let's be honest there, when was the last time he made a GOOD Batman comic? Batman: Year One? That was 20 years ago

Well, at least one good thing came from ASBAR:

Neonivek

All I know is that it is IMPOSSIBLE, absolutely impossible... For them to make a good live action Wonder Woman movie.

Period.

and yet I bet everyone here knows that it is true too. Not because Wonderwoman couldn't make a great movie, but because Hollywood thinks feministic women come from alien planets or something.

stika

At least we did get a good WW animated movie 2 or 3 years ago, so that's something

Numbers

Who would even be able to play the part of Wonder Woman? I mean, I could picture a younger Rachel Weisz doing it, since she was pretty athletic back in the day and can also do a perfect American accent, but is there anyone else?

YMMV, but I'm willing to believe if Joss Whedon's WW movie had gone through it would've been good.

It certainly would've been better than the WW TV show that nearly ended up on air. Anyone else see the unaired pilot of that? WOW. Awful! (And I say that while liking the actress who was cast as WW/Diana Prince.)

It depends on what you're after as Wonder Woman.  Personally, while it's a somewhat cheesy pick, Jennifer Lawrence would be a good one from my perspective as she is not only a very good actress, she's also proven in an action series setting.  However, some might object to her youth and look as Wonder Woman.  Gemma Atherton might also be a good call, she did pretty well in Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time.

Numbers

Oh God, I hated her in that movie. She was so shrill and one-note.

And now we know that the next Batman is going to be Ben Affleck...when I first heard this, I had to play Arkham City for five hours to calm down. On the other hand there were people who took it much worse, people writing President Obama and telling him to make it so that someone else would be Batman. Yeah, screw running a country, the actual duty of a president is to exercise his authority to make changes to a movie he'll never watch. Classy, people.

HitBattousai

I don't think character depth was exactly part of the plan of Sands of Time, but I thought she did a good job with what she was given.  I would prefer Lawrence, but it's probably an unlikely call there.  Gina Carano would be alright if they can somehow make a Wonder Woman film without the lead having much dialogue actually be good.

And yeah, Ben Affleck is a horrible choice as Batman.  It's not even that he's a bad actor, he's just not a good one, all his performances are very similar and bland.  Almost anyone else would be a more interesting choice.  What makes it even worse is they actually made a great choice for Lex Luthor in Bryan Cranston(Breaking Bad).  He'll be an older Luthor but he'll have the look and the acting chops necessary to give the role the needed gravitas.

LadyTerra

Actually, if they cast Matt Damon as Superman and redo the title as Man of Steel 2: Jay and Silent Bob Crack Down, this movie suddenly becomes awesome.
I have my cake and eat it too, until it's gone.  Then I can't do either.

Matt Damon usually brings awesomeness to his roles. Hell, if they made a Mask of Eternity movie, casting Matt Damon as Connor alone would make it ten times better than the source material.

that's one weird mental image you gave me, lol
