First impressions so far:

- Plays like X-COM for the battles, which I like.
- Graphics are nice and sharp.
- Dialogue is amusing.
- Annoyed with how the game saves.  I prefer to save independently and use multiple slots instead of relying on autosaves.  You could lose hours of gameplay if you lost a mission or your game froze.
- I absolutely LOVE the character sheet!  I'm starting as a Rigger, but you can put points in anything.  Gotta love that customization!   ;)
I have my cake and eat it too, until it's gone.  Then I can't do either.

Aww!  You have the Sword of Hugging +3!  All of your attacks deal affectionate damage!

FINALLY! SHADOWRUN RETURNS IS HERE!

Are you playing it? You're not? WHY THE HECK NOT?!? Quit your job, get a divorce and skip your kid's soccer games, it's to play Shadowrun!

Anyone started playing it yet? What characters did you make? Post your stuff! Imma gonna post my decker soon! :D

Also, have you played any shadowrun game? be it P&P or in videogame format?

Personally, this was the game that got me into the series

My face whenever I see somebody geeking out over a game I've never heard of.
I have no mouth, and I must scream.

stika

Sorry I haven't posted anything yet, but been kinda busy

Anyway, here's why I love shadowrun, imagine a game with orcs, elves and trolls with your typical sword and sorcery fair, BUT, set in the future where you also have guns, cyberspace, hacking and cybernetic enhancements

This means you can have an ork with a terminator-like exo-skeleton, weilding a sword and an uzi

or an elf who weilds magic and can hack into any facility, unlocking doors, controlling defense turrets or guard bots.

You can even fight in cyberspace and yes, in typical 90's fare, if you die in cyberspace you die in real life

LadyTerra

Aww.  I already started a thread.   :'(

Well, since there is a conversation here, holy Italian dessert pastries!  This game is awesome!

What are you playing?  I'm a dwarf rigger (controls robots to do things like fight and unlock doors for those who don't know) with some points in decking (computer hacking and going into cyberspace).
I have my cake and eat it too, until it's gone.  Then I can't do either.

Sorry for the delay, been busy as heck!

Playing a human decker, I'm not very far yet, but to be honest I'm disappointed by the lack of exploration :\

Whenever I play a new game, read a new book or watch a new movie, I always keep my expectations so unbelievably low that nothing about it can disappoint me. Perhaps you should take this approach instead of getting psyched up for something that might not be very good. (Duke Nukem Forever, anyone?)

Not that I'm bashing on Shadowrun, it looks like it's getting fairly good reviews so far.
I have no mouth, and I must scream.

stika

Yeah, I'm still liking the game. But I do expect exploration an RPG :P

What can I say, been waiting for a shadowrun game for ages! The writing's damn good though!

I know I'm a bit late, but joining both threads now

*shlurp*

Whoa.  I suddenly feel like I've existed in two places at once.  Also, slightly taller.

'tis the power of the internet.

In all seriousness though, didn't the lack of exploration bother you? It really hampered my fun, I feel like I barely get to explore this amazing world

LadyTerra

It does a bit, now that I'm noticing it more, but I still like the story and gameplay enough to play through it.  It looks like I can at least make a mod that can be explored instead of just one cutscene to the next (I'm hoping for a desert tileset at some point for my master campaign).  Still, my worst problem is the auto save and the lack of a manual save.

stika

ah yeah the save system is kinda weird.

The combat is damn addicting though

stika

Oh also, I saw there's already someone working on a remake of the SNES game

I hope we get a Genesis remake soon :P

stika

oh just for fun, the manual of game that introduced me to shadowrun:

linky

stika

Oh by the way, if anyone has some shadowrun returns steam trading cards and you're not into the whole steam trading card business, I'll gladly take them off of you :P

LadyTerra

I'm collecting them myself.  If you like, I have an extra Paco I can trade.

I don't have any now :\

Maybe I'll get some more new cards soon :P

stika

I have an extra Paco card if you're interested :P
