GetThreadContext Errors Crashing Episode 1

I recently purchased the whole season of Cognition but I'm having trouble getting through episode 1 because the game keeps crashing on a pretty regular basis with a "GetThreadContext error" message popping up when I get back to the desktop. Any ideas what the problem could be?

This usually comes up when some type of Antivirus (in our testing, Avast was the most common culprit) is interfering with the game's normal functions. If you have any antivirus running, you may want to check and see if there's a way to have it completely ignore Cognition while it runs, or just temporarily disable it altogether while playing the game.
