I've tried the Torque engine's demo. I think that it looks like a good base for the game, but what will it add to KQ9, in ways besides improved visuals?

Such as, is it any easier to code, than your previous engine? Will the physics add noticeably to the game, like someone dropping their sword, or would it simply be an animation? How hard has it been, changing the code so it would work for a point&click Adventure game?

and anything else your willing to answer about it, that I haven't asked. XD

P.S. Please excuse my lack of knowledge on the subject.

Wow, what a loaded thread!  I'll try to answer the rest of these later but I'll answer the first one now:

Well, the previous engine was with Crystal Space and it was a pretty new engine, so there were plenty of non-implemented features or just plain buggy ones.  I wasn't in the Programming department when they were using that, but I would say that coding is a lot easier now with a more widely known and used engine.

I don't believe Crystal Space had anything extra that this engine doesn't have, but at the same time, this engine does have its limits. :P

Most of these will be animated beforehand in Maya, and the sequences are then imported into Torque.  We haven't really made much use of the physics in Torque yet because we haven't done animations yet.

Physics eh? It would add an interesting dimension to the game, i.e. would introduce an element of randomness in some puzzles and could even be exploited in certain, simple physics based puzzles if the need arose (its something I will consider for my KQ IX anyway!)
When cities burn and armies turn,
and flee in disarray,
Cowards will cry 'tis best to fly
and fight another day.
But warriors know it in their marrow when they die and fall,
It is better to have fought and lost than not have fought at all.
