Sorry, I got tied up watching the Olympics, and was really late posting my reply. :-[ You and Bushie hadn't posted yet, when I got started, so who knows?

Zork I, after being eaten by a grue? ;D

Though I never played Zork, so I wouldn't know which one or when exactly... :( Or whether it is really a game parodying Zork. ;)

Actually, grues appear in all Zork games - both text adventures and the later ones. They're creatures that lurk in the darkness and eat you up if you go into dark places without a tourch. It's really the game's way of giving you a reason not to go into dark places instead of just saying "it's too dark to go there" :P

lol! Seriously, that game is impossible on modern speed machines... (im pretty sure that diviner bug is caused by the floating green things going warp 9 across the screen)

Speed wasn't my problem... the game worked just fine otherwise. I could catch the floaters and all, but that darn transporter would cave in under me no matter how little inventory I had :(
I could see it's a bug since the game wouldn't show the falling down animation and would just hang there for a long while before showing the death message >:(

Quote from: FataliOmega on August 23, 2004, 07:09:56 PM(BTW, I mentioned it a while back... mayhaps you were remembering me?  ::) )

Probably... I'm pretty sure no one else mentioned it, or knew about it for that matter ;)
"Never argue with idiots. They'll drag you down to their level and beat you with experience."

FataliOmega

Oh, ok... Its the bug where the transport (and you) disappear completely... Im pretty sure I managed to get past that by trying different pixels to walk on to the floating thing. If I remember correctly, it turned out to be pretty random.

I don't debate, I ramble with STYLE!

Storm

Yeah, I managed to get across ONCE in the ~1000 times I tried >:(
I'll have to try that again... someday 8)

Let me just take a second to brag about one of the more obscure adventure games.

Altered Destiny, in many ways, was unique, one of a kind. Why do I say that, you ask? It had a text parser using all the common phrases, a story line involving the repeatedly used plot of 'man getting sucked into different dimension to become a 'hero,' and had the universal ultimatum of bad guy trying to rule the world. So what makes it so special?

Its creativity. Sci-fi (and fantasy) stories, traditionally, use cliched, reused and regurgitated plots, characters, quests, creatures, etc.

Altered Destiny doesnt do this. Everything from the Canyons of Fear to the Floating Islands have trully bizarre landscapes and wildlife that even a drunk, hallucinating person couldnt imagine. Seriously, a slinky, hopping plant that turns the people it captures into trees... thats some pretty strange stuff.
Add in some beautifully moody music, and youve got one great adventure game.

Alright, Im done. *shuts up*

Storm

...And yet, one bug can make you wish you never laid eyes on the thing ::)

BTW, it's your turn to post a death scene 8)

FataliOmega

Its OldBushie's turn... I posted the death 'scene' from zork I... He guessed it in one post.  :P
Lets all flood him with IMs! MWHAHAHA!!!

Oldbushie

Oops!  :-[

Sorry, it's been quite a while, work has been piling up at college...

"You wake up on your bedroom floor, shaken but unharmed. Kim apparently won The Game and, in the process, purged *spoiler* of all magic including The Game. Slightly depressed, you stand up, dust yourself off, and proceed on with your incredibly mundane existence."

*spoiler* is a direct hint to what the game is, as it contains part of the title.

Good luck guessing! ;D

ADOM!! Blooming heck I thought I was the only one in the world who played that game (albeit failing miserably!)
When cities burn and armies turn,
and flee in disarray,
Cowards will cry 'tis best to fly
and fight another day.
But warriors know it in their marrow when they die and fall,
It is better to have fought and lost than not have fought at all.

Louisiana Night

me=barely played it. :P

Is it from the game, entitled, "The Game? ;P

B'rrr

loved the movie with that title  ::)
