Interpret "nastiest" as you wish: ugly, evil, obnoxious, irritating.  Just make sure you say why you picked your villain!  ;D

Louisiana Night

Alhazred.

Reason= he assasinated the rulers(of the Green Isles).

Jael

Mannann - you've got to hand it to a guy who has the patience to be continually stuck in a cycle of kidnapping, raising and then killing servants. That takes real evil :P

Though, he has paved the way for a seriously disturbed and angsty hero of KQ9 (so far as I know, that is ;)), so perhaps we should be grateful to him :P

Yonkey

Just for some colour, I decided to pick Hagatha.  ;P

I just found her to be the nastiest looking. :X

Well, of course we should be grateful!

...whaaaaaaat? I can't be the *only* demented Crazy Alexander Fangirl around. The only one willing to *admit* to being demented, perhaps...

I have to admit, it's a good toss-up between Manannan and Alhazred. Manannan gets props (well, you know, props in villainy terms, anyway, relatively speaking) for the whole enslaving boys *and* killing them off *and* subjugating the town *and* being a powerful wizard thingys.

Minus points for getting turned into a cat by a novice spellcaster.

Alhazred gets props for killing two people in cold blood, sending a princess off to an evil wizard, then after ending up with her back, imprisioning her, pretending to marry her while plotting to kill her too, stealing the island treasures to turn everyone against everyone else, trying to get all the island leaders to kill the dude trying to rescue the princess...

Minus points for needing a genie to cast his magic for him, and getting stabbed by a princess, and getting conked out by a novice swordsman, one wielding a too-heavy antique sword, at that.

Of course, then there's Malicia... re-kidnaps the Prince of the Fairies, turns him into a troll king imposter, tries to flood an entire land with volcano lava, kills Edgar... and gets turned into an infant in the end.

And... you know, I'll have to get back to you. ;)

Peace & Luv, Liz

Lolotte...I think because KQ4 was always my favorite, so I'm a little biased!  But I think probably because she kidnapped Edgar, and raised him as her son.  Were we ever told WHY she did this??  I can't think of anything worse than not knowing your parents.  Or to think you do and to find out what you believed was completely wrong.

I choose... the rat!! that has to be the nastiest door-guard ever. He really made a lasting impression in those 2 seconds it took me to get past him :P
Seriously, why is he on the list? the witch Dahlia would have been a much better choice for KQ1... she's closer to being a main villian, not to mention much nastier... the rat was just hungry ;)

I'll interpret "nasty" as "evil" and go with Manannan. For the other villians, evil is mostly a mean to an end. With Manannan it's torture for the sake of torture, simply because he enjoys someone else's suffering :-\

Hi! First of all...I LOVE it that you guys have taken on the seemingly insurmountable task of wrapping up the KQ series, with volunteers and strangers to work with(not that that is bad, just a lot harder :)). I wish all the inspiration, help, enthusiasm, time and energy that you need to finish this project and to finish it well.

Ooops that last post posted before I was done... ;](comes with the territory of being new at this I guess.) Anyway, back to the topic at hand. Bad and nasty villains of the KQ series.
To determine who the worst one is you have to look at the actual crime and the motive behind.

So behold the rat... Crime: Being nasty looking and fierce and guarding the door to a hidden treasure, which makes him an accomplice, but not really directly criminal. Also threatening our Hero. Motive: Hunger. Not evil, but just following quite basic needs and I would have done the same, had I been in his paws.

2: Hagatha. Crime: eating people. Admittedly one of the worst and most evil offenses known to man(Hannibal Lector), although that is the only threat she poses to anyone and if you can stay out of her way, you're fine.

3: Mannanan. Crime: routinely kidnapping babies and abusing them for someteen years and then killing them. In truth one of the worst offenses in this series to date. I agree with Jael and Storm in their thoughts of his reasons for doing this; for his own comfort and for the twisted pleasure of exercising evil and feeling the power.

4: Lolotte. Crime: kidnapping a baby and distorting him physically, the stealing of an amulet(causing her antagonist to slowly perish(knowingly or not?)) and desiring to have more power to exert evilness(capture the unicorn, have Pandoras box). Potentially very nasty indeed, but she actually never got to do anything extraordinarily evil before Rosella saved the day, and you can't fault someone for having the option and potential for evil. Motive: Selfish exaltation and power. Always seems to corrupt good people and worsen the bad, doesn't it?

5: Mordack. Crime: kidnapping a castle(!) with its inhabitants and also the daughter of the King of the Green Isles, putting her to work in his kitchen basement(a Mannanan in training?). Possibly the most powerful wizard so far in the series, but kidnapping isn't quite as bad as eating and torturing and killing people. Motive: helping his friend Alhazred and to be honest I only played King's Quest V once and was not impressed with the voice thing so I didn't really pay attention to the background story. :-\.

6: Alhazred. Crime: stealing of the sacred artefacts of the different provinces of his desired kingdom and blaming them in order to invoke hatred and division. Killing the king and queen and in general being a harsch ruler. Stealing, fledgling tyrant and two murders, although nasty and evil is still not as bad as what is yet to come. Motive: power. everything to rule the relatively small kingdom of the Green Isles.

7: Malicia. Crime: kidnapping Edgar and distorting him(poor guy, talk about a candidate for multiple personality disorder!) physically and mentally, freezing Mab in ice, driving a stake in Ceres and transforming her into a tree and Attis(?) into a stag, slowly turning him into one, beheading Count Tseppish and burning his house, plotting, and very nearly executing,  blowing up a volcano in order to destroy Etheria, but consequently also destroying Ooga Booga land, The Volcanix Underground and Falderal, and having bad taste in just about everything fashion. In terms of amount of power wielded and vastness of destruction, noone so far has equalled Malicia. 4 countries melted(genocide), 3 creatures of powerful magic enslaved, murder and kidnapping puts her in the Hall of Fame of all time greats in Evil and Nasty deeds. Motive: To destroy Etheria because her hated sister lives there and is good and powerful as she. Family counseling anyone?? (makes you wonder what Titania did to make Malicia hate her so and if that's the case, who is the bigger villain...) :S

8:Lucreto. Crime: destroying the Mask of Eternity and sending the whole of Daventry and the Sun Realm(and only Daventry and the Sun Realm) into petrification and plotting to rule the entire known world. Nasty. As far as power being wielded, I don't know what amount of power it took to destroy the MoE but it must've been a lot, so he is powerful. Also he bred an army of miscreants to guard him and to kill any leftover heroes. Bad indeed. Motive: Not sure, as I've only played it through once and the story is admittedly lacking.

So in closing, my vote(if you haven't guessed it) is on Malicia.

Haha, honestly that was just as a joke ;P but also because KQ1 has no real villain per se.

I guess I could have put the witch instead, but I couldn't remember her name :suffer: and I doubt she'd win this poll anyway.  :P

...or you could view the grade of nastiness by how low they've fallen. The rat would be the least evil, as it has always been a rat and it's just doing its hungry, menacing rat-thing and also in which case the choice is between Lucreto and Malicia, as both once were good creatures but fell into evilness. And the 'more good' you are the longer the fall and the more evil you can get. So in that case I still would have to choose Malicia. :-\

I voted for Lolotte because of the box art that never got released for KQ4. She looks like one vil biatch in that no mistake! Oh and she nearly killed Genesta who has a 70s stylee snow leopard which just rocks.

So yeah, Lolotte!

Oh. You know, I've never looked at it from that perspective before. That actually makes him a wholesome and upstanding citizen of the King's Quest community(in a sick and twisted kind of way).  :o In which case he really shouldn't be on this list at all.

We should probably should replace him with Cedric, since he is the only other one that made your blood boil in that game.

Thanks for the warm welcome btw! !!!
