After watching this, I now totally see King's Quest 6 from a different viewpoint:

"Be kind to this gentle land, be open-hearted to her whimsy, and protect her, if you can, from the harsh winds which might wish to blow in from the sea to steal her soul.  She is unlike any place I have ever seen, and she has stolen my heart."

I'm 10 minutes into this and all I can say is: It's easy to boost your ego by belittling that which is easily attacked.   Of course I can decry the graphics but this game is 20 years old.   In 1993, I remember being extremely impressed by the production values of the game.

I also remember being extremely favorably impressed that they got Robbie Benson as the voice of Alexander.    In that day, he was a high-commodity actor.

Personally, I found the retsuprae commentary on KQV and VI pretty amusing. It didn't change the way I looked at the games, but some playful ribbing is fun. Their riffing on KQVII, on the other hand, was basically just "Man, this game really sucks" over and over again, which is why I think they stopped it. It wasn't fun for them or for the viewer.

This video, though? All in good fun. :P

It's funny how you find you enjoy your life when you're happy to be alive.

I've just finished the video and my opinion has not changed.   What we listen to are lazy folks who satisfy their egos by picking on easy targets.

A better, more thoughtful  commentary would be why this game is still viable today.    Why do we sitll play KQ6, 20 years after its introduction?

To pick an anectdote, I can negatively critisise the original "Star Trek" too.    Sure, "Kirk has a babe on every planet."   But the fact is, "Star Trek"  still works today, which deserves commentary.   Why would a 45 year old show still be an acceptable entertainment today?   That is a question that deserves commentary.   Making sport of its obvious defiences is too easy and does not deserve comment. One thing the internet has spawned is critics who have no educational foundation--who do not understand the art of critique.

These dudes, whoever they are, cannot challenge themselves to regard what survives.   They only regard what doesn't survive.   They only remark on the obvious targets.   Ho Hum!

I don't think it was ever meant as insightful critique or genuine review. It's just meant as humor, and if it's not your style then the video can't offer you much.

You obviously have no experience with Retsupurae. Everything they said in the video is completely correct. I've followed them for years now and they are very well-educated. They are not lazy in the least, and while they do have egos, they have an excuse in being very capable at what they do to back themselves up. Slowbeef grew up playing KQ6, remember. Do not dismiss that which you know nothing about. And get a sense of humor while you're at it.

No, what I meant was not that King's Quest 6 sucks or anything, it's that I always looked at the game with a very serious tone in mind. The logic always made sense to me in the game, but now I have gained a very comical viewpoint. Next time I ever play KQ6 I can't stop laughing remembering the jokes these guys made.

You should watch their KQ5 commentary. It is so damn funny.

"And then Billy, Graham died of thirst in the desert. What did we learn today?"

"And then crows came down and slowly tore apart his flesh. As the crows ate his flesh, A bear came and punched his head clean off.

"Grandpa,  bears can't punch!", and then he punches the kid

As a fan of KQ6, I thought it was hilarious.  And yes, I did watch and enjoy their playthrough of KQ5 as well.  I've watched Rifftrax many times too, even of movies that I enjoyed, and still found them pretty funny.  Watching this was no less enjoyable.

...Anyone ever notice that nasty black mark on Alexander's neck, when his talking portrait appears though?

Yeah, I always found that pretty weird too, how the bear stands like a man and punches Graham.  It's also ironic that the narrator says you shouldn't feed the bears, when that actually turns out to be the right thing to do.
