Sierra II (Some Food for Thought)

I read the history of Sierra on some webpage, and it seems like by 1995, a year before Sierra was sold, that it was quickly becomming a monster in the gaming industry, and that if it hadn't been sold it might have had some kind of monoply on the computer game industry, and with all the aquitizitions it had made, it may have gotten into strategy guides (Sierra Books I think they had) It would have probably made a deal with Printer companies because of Print Artist. Also, a question: Is it just me, or has it seemed like Sierra's various owners have had it out for Sierra, like for some reason they've come down really hard on Sierra, like all the stuff Sierra went through, with Black Monday I and II, I haven't seen Blizzard, another company which Vivendi owns, go through this much thrashing and trouble. Blizzard grows strong while Sierra lays beaten, dying.

Blizzard isn't Blizzard anymore, as far as I'm concerned. Most, if not all, the people that made the company great, have left. I'm waiting for that "one time fee" MMORPG, that the founders(many of them) of Blizzard are making.

lol, I don't think so :P they were probably first about many things and new into a market that had no expectations at that moment but truth to be told, that's like blowing up a bit the truth, I don't believe Sierra would have had many good expectations due bad management anyhow, good ideas are everywhere, but to keep up a business of THAT lenght at THOSE expectations is a loooooot to say :P

As I said, I think sierra had a good moment... that's all there is to it (this is my personal opinion, obvioulsy) probably they could have expand their operations but they never did at all.

well comparing blizzard with sierra is like comparing apples and oranges, I think Blizzard is doing - o.k - but then again, we do know that Blizzard has a few good things on their own too :P

I remember reading in some Ken Williams interview that he wanted to buy ID Software (the company that made DOOM) before they created DOOM.  He even took the creators out to some fancy restaurant but nothing ever came of it.  Considering the success DOOM had around that time, Sierra might have maintained a monopoly.

Haha yeah I know.  But if he did, the company itself might have lasted for another 5 years.  XD  I'm not too sure about the adventure game genre lasting for that long though.  :-\

Anyway, it's easy to look back now and say "Dude, you missed the opportunity of a lifetime!" but he said he met them before they made DOOM.  And they were literally kids in ripped jeans, walking with Ken into this "VERY fancy restaurant".  The restaurant staff there were practically freaking out.  :suffer:

lol how can you be so positive about that? they would have probably not even ever released Doom cuz they were a divition under Sierra name and probably Sierra instead of being a giant monster they could have had a bigger fall anyhow since they being a divition of someone's else they don't have creative authority in most cases, specially hence they don't get to act on their own legally and financially that's why, so that was a really pretty thought about it hence I would believe ID is waaay better off on their own, and probably they would have done good for Sierra but truth to be told ID kind of did great on their own and they probably wouldn't have been as good as they are if they had a bigger entity controlling them

I think Ken didn't miss an oportunity that probably wasn't even there, business is so much more than great ideas and good intentions, remember the path to hell is covered up in good intentions ;-D or so people say.

Wolfenstein? Is that the original, or Wolfenstein3D?

Hexen1/2 FUN !!!

Hexen2 was easier for some reason. I never tried Herectic2, but I played the demo.

BIG POPA CHICKEN :o

lol, I played the old old ones, they were fine, but I think I only enjoyed the "return to castle of wolfestein" or something like that, I never quite it because I'm not a big fan of the theme but the game was "ok" anyways

and honestly I am such a freak when it comes to shooter games but in THAT style, that's why I like a lot ID's games, for example I remember I played over and over again Hexxen and Heretic soooo much, I kept finishing them and playing them all over again... and again

I don't play many games myself, and Im very picky when it comes to it because I do like a game when I can actually get into it wheter it's a simply shooting crap or a deep story :P but I can't deny I love more like horror or fantasy and such. I love Silent Hill, I love Resident Evil, I love Legacy of Kain / Soul Reaver (Raziel AND Kain series), I loved Mc.Gee's Alice, erm... *thinks* obviously the stated before as doom, quake and the oldbies Hexxen/Heretic :P, Final Fantasy... and that's pretty much that comes to mind when I do think about few games that I just simply love and I would reinstall all over again just to play them :P no matter how old they may get...

... and there is this super cool game THAT YOU CAN'T MISS!! I'm so gonna get it and play it over and over :P it's called KQ9! you can't miss it :P
