Zero: Well, I'm Canadian.  We have to like hockey by law.  :D
(I'm still surprised that Yonkey hasn't been fined yet :D)

I never said I didn't like hockey, I just said it doesn't interest me. :P I prefer sports on a more international scale (i.e. Olympics, World Series, World Cup, etc.) as opposed to regional or national.  8)

Yeah I think I agree with you Yonkey, about sports being more interesting and fun on the international scene. But it is also fun when it starts to get closer to the end of the season and the stakes are higher.

I do think that actally playing sports is a WHOLE lot more fun than waching it. Especially volleyball....(maybe that could be anew thread....favourite pastimes of the KQ9 community?)

How the heck can you say that the "World Series" is more "international" than hockey?!  :o  It's baseball, only involves two teams from outside the US, and there aren't nearly as many nationalities playing baseball as there are hockey, either. (at least at the professional level)
Hockey also is an Olympic sport.

Man, if you don't like hockey, just say so.  ;P

Ah yes, I do enjoy the irony of the "World Series" :D

I don't mind some of Australia's specific sports (AFL, for example. GO THE LIONS!!), but damned if I can figure out the Australian obsession with cricket. I find it about as painless to watch as gouging my eyes out with a salad fork ;P.

The only other sporting event I REALLY like besides the AFL is the Olympics. Can't wait for them this year.

Alright: I prefer Olympic Hockey to "regular" Hockey.  ;P

AAAHHH! Volleyball is the spawn of pure evil. I owe many a gym class of pure torture to that damn sport. :P Every time I drive through Holyoke, I fantasize about enacting revenge for it being invented there. Then I remember that Holyoke has already turned itself into something of a hellhole, and I feel slightly better. ;P

I loved volleyball before I jiggled when I jumped (read, got fat an out of shape).

I wasn't that bad at it either, but not great.  I did get a volleyball to the face once.  That ruined my day.

I know! Doesn't that just sting like h**l?! I love doing that to others though... XD *drifts off thinking about all the times he has spiked people in the face and sighs contentedly*

Graaaaah. Once the kids on the opposite team figured out that I would duck the ball every time (since my amount of hand-eye co-ordination is just about zero, and thus if I didn't duck I would likely always get smacked by the volleyball in some vulnerable body part) they spent every single gym class spiking and hitting the ball straight at me because they knew I couldn't return it. And then on top of that, my teammates yelled at me because I was making them lose. And the gym teacher yelled at me because they thought I was goofing off.

I hated gym class in general, but volleyball held a special spot of loathing for me. Every other gym class I would at least put my best effort forward (and still fail miserably, but at least I tried, even if my gym teachers were never convinced, the gits), but when we played volleyball I just sat it out. I tried explaining to them why, but they didn't like it and said they'd flunk me for the module. So I said, fine, flunk me, I don't give a s***.

Whoever came up with the idea of mandatory gym classes in schools should have unspeakable tortures heaped upon them. (Considering the amount of crap I went through, it would only be a fair return. And yes, I know, the person's likely long dead by now. I can still dream.)

OK, I'm done now. (puts the cap back on the can of worms ;) )

Yeah volleyball is actually considered to be one the most difficult sports to master, so I empathize with you. *looking at Jeysie wishing he could make the painful memories go away*

So volleyball aside; what other sports can be found among the people of this forum? Soccer, fencing, biathlon, chess...? To make this relevant for this thread, post some pics of you doing whatever sports/activity you like or have been involved in.

btw... Jeysie, just to let you know, I would never have done that to you, had I been in your school at the time. I only like to spike on the macho kids and the obnoxious ones. My favorite occasion with this was in Israel when I spiked a guy from their national youth team straight in the face! Oh Joyous occasion! That was really fun and after that I wasn't even depressed by the fact that we had to sleep on the beach that night.(kinda dangerous but what do you do when you are a poor traveler?)

It's OK, Zero-G... I wasn't really ranting at you. Just that everybody has their buttons, and as bizarre as it sounds, volleyball is one of mine. ;P

As for relevancy... you can always start a new thread. Or wait until Yonkey gets on one of his thread-splitting jolly trips. ;)

(OK, it's mostly because I don't have any pics of me playing sports!)

Due to the aforementioned lack of hand-eye coordination, my list of sports I actually like is pretty small. (BTW, chess as a sport... interesting classification.)

Bowling: I'm definitely not great... I have around a 120 average in ten-pin... and I used to have around a 80 average in candlepin, but now that I'm used to ten-pin I totally suck at candlepin. Bleh. Still, while I'm not great at ten-pin, I'm good enough for it to usually be fun.

Archery: I can hit the target. Not necessarily anywhere approaching the bulls-eye, but I can at least hit the target. (As opposed to one poor soul in a gym class who accidentally totally missed and hit one of the stacked tumbling mats!) Haven't played this since high school, though.

Floor hockey: Probably the only sport I was anything approaching "good" at. I even impressed the kids who hated me at the time. I also "impressed" opposing team members to the point where I got slashed across the legs on two separate occasions by people I had pissed off by ruining their perfect shot. Can you say, "OW??!!"

I was by far the best at defense, although I could do passable wing in a total pinch. Wasn't very good at center or goalie. Haven't gotten to play this since middle school. I could have tried transferring my skills into field hockey (can't ice skate or blade very well, so roller or ice hockey is out), but such is life, I suppose. Besides, I'd hate wearing the skirts.

Edit: See, I was right about Yonkey. We <3 you hon!

FLOOR HOCKEY!! Now THERE'S a sport that's fun. I LUBBBBB it! I used to play quite a bit back when and didn't mind playing goalie either, although defense is more fun. It is such a fast sport! I guess I should post a pic of me doing something in this arena, soooo....

ok maybe later or tomorrow. :)

:P  I was gonna wait until someone posted a pic (since this was just split from the Silly Mug thread) or until someone asked for it.  Turns out both happened around the same time. XD

OMG I  ~L <3 V E~ BOWLING!!  I've only played 10 pin a couple of times, but I've gotten a 182 and a 177!!  As for candlepin, that's an eastern thing, I assure you.  But I might get an 80 in that.  Best was 104 a number of years ago now.

Never played a lot of floor hockey, per se.  Plenty of road hockey.  I was pretty good at being a goalie and aggressive at defence.  I wasn't that great elsewhere.  Just didn't have the shooting or stick handling skills.

Louisiana Night

Assuming we're talking about sports, that have to do with throwing/kicking/hitting around a ball/puck.

The only sports I'm even below average at, are football(american), basketball, and maybe ice-hockey.I've played hockey on rollerblades, and have skated on ice, so I'm hoping I understand the basic results(of me playing hockey on ice). I'm bad at football, but having a guy twice  my size(or at least it seems that way) trying to tackle/crush/mutilate me, gives me incentive to run very fast.
