Yes, but they're all still US citizens right now, aren't they? At the very least, they're playing for US-based teams. It's not the same as having a team from the US, a team of people currently residing in Canada, a team of people currently residing in England, etc.

Like the World Cup in soccer/football, for instance.

I get what your saying but i was disagreeing with James in the first place about more nationlities playing hockey than baseball, Hockey is mostly a America/canada/europe sport, baseball is a world sport everyone plays it.  I know the world series really isnt an internationl thing but i wasnt arguing that, just the fact that more nationalites play baseball than hockey.

Once again, I find myself seconding Jeysie's statement. Yes, I also had many gym classes turned into volleyball practice because the weather was not good enough to go running. Those were our two choices that year: volleyball or running, both of which I suck(ed) at, BTW.

I'm relatively good at bowling, actually, my hand-eye coordination is not that bad. No hockey for me, wouldn't know where to go actually.

I also used to play badminton, be it not for competion. I never played in any competion. The closest I get to competition is when I bowl with some family, that's it.
Even longer ago, I played a bit of tennis, but nowadays, I'm only interested in the scores (thank you IBM(R) Real-Time Scoreboard) of the Belgians competing in the grand slams. Yes, I'm a number-cruncher. 8)

You only have to prove your big in europe and america to be an olympic sport, also i was talking nationalities  on a professional level how many asian players in the NHL?

I didn't realize having an Asian meant that you're more international.  And not having one only means they're not producing top quality players. (Japan's and China's national teams kinda suck)

But in reference to your question, I do not know.  I only know there's 19 different nationalities represented in the NHL.  And that regular season games are sometimes played in Asia.  Not pre-season or anything.  Regular season. (albeit, infrequently)

I am not prepared to sift through every roster list to find out if there are any.

You can at www.nhl.com if you so desire.

I was just using asia as an example, any minority would do.

There are several ways to look at the greatness of a sport. There is the actual number and variety of global participants(professionally and recreationally), the amount of people that attend games and competitions and also  the amount of money a certain sport has a budget for, globally.

Everyone knows that football(or soccer for ye americans ;-D) is the biggest one all the way around. I'm almost certain that volleyball is #3 in the amount of people playing it, globally. Hockey, basketball are both way up there, certainly in the top 10.
I haven't been able to google up any official list yet, although I've tried. :(

Heh, maybe I should have mentioned this earlier.  I don't care about the races of people in professional sports.

I like Olympic sports over all others because competition on an international level is much harder than on a regional or national one.  There's a lot more training, money, time and effort involved in getting an Olympic medal and the judging in events is far more objective because the judges themseves are international as well.  Also, I like cheering for Canada, despite USA winning most Olympic metals.

Oh yeah, getting back to hockey James, I was really into the 2002 Winter Olympic gold-medal hockey match between US and Canada.... which Canada won!!!  WOOOOOO! XD  ;D

One thing I also like about the Olympics is that it's not a competition done for money, it's done for the desire to be the best you can be at what you do.

(Yes, I know that Olympic success can sometimes bring financial success back home, but there's gotta be easier ways to get rich, if that's all you're interested in.)

Gearing over to the Olympics; what's the favorite event and why? For me I think it might be beachvolleyball. I love volleyball and especially the beach variety, so I will try to follow that as much as possible, although I love soccer and table tennis as well.

I'm big on the artistic sports... gymnastics, figure skating, diving, synchronized swimming, that sort of thing. Rhythmic Gymnastics is my favorite, although they never show much coverage of it here (prolly because the US is pretty second-rate in that sport), so I'll go with my second favorite, Women's Gymnastics.

Man it was a close call for Greece! They almost botched it with the preparations for the Olympics. It could've gotten over to Sydney or Los angeles, had they not been able to meet the goals. But I think it'll be a good one. I'm hoping to get cable just for the Olympics and be home sick from work. !!!

Are the Olympics over already, or have they yet to start? I never watch TV anymore (or get to read the newspaper, for that matter), so I'm waaaaay out of touch.

They are yet to start.

They run from August 13th to the 29th.

OK, cool. I had remembered the other day that, oh yeah, duh, this is a Summer Olympics year, and had been a little paranoid I missed out on watching them.

I've been inlining to school everyday this week and my chin muscles and my calves are talking to me... fortunately I'm not listening. 8)

Greece won the European Cup in soccer which is a HUGE thing, since they haven't really made it to the group play before, and now they go and beat all the big countries. Amazing. I love that about sports where any small team or new individual has the chance to go and win the whole competition. Martial arts are sports like that and I love to watch the show part of those competitions. GREAT fun!!
