What is the first adventure game you played? How old were you at the time? If you started playing adventure games at a young age, how much do you think they affected your development?

As far as I can recall, Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis was my first adventure game. I think I was in second grade, which would have made me seven years old. I thought it was totally awesome at the time. I think Kings Quest 6 was the very next game I tried, which would make it my first Kings Quest game. At the time I liked it too, but not quite as much as Fate of Atlantis. It's tough to tell how much my development was really affected, but adventure games did seem to contribute to my imagination and love of exploring.

My half-sister got a hand-me-down computer from her Dad in the summer of 1991. I was 8 at the time. It came with King's Quest I-IV, Space Quest I-III, Leisure Suit Larry 1-3, Manhunter 1-2, Police Quest 1-2, Gold Rush, Hoyle Book of Games 1, Mixed-Up Mother Goose, and Loom. The first game I specifically remember playing was MUMG, although that's arguably an adventure game. But I remember watching my mom and sister play through all the others, starting with the King's Quest games. So many fun memories! We played through those games and eventually picked up King's Quest V and Space Quest IV. My sister went away to college in 1995, and I didn't play any more adventure games until 1999, when I found the King's Quest Collection Series at Computer City for $20. Picked that up in excitement and got thrown back into it all! Since then I've built a decent collection of adventure games. :)

Talk to you later!

That's a hell of a deal!    ;)

First off, Welcome back Lambonius! I check this site every now and then, and I remember your comments back in the day being very funny. So welcome.

First adventure game is such a good question. What constitutes an adventure game? So much grey area.  I'm thinking Kings quest 3, possibly space quest 3 as far as sierra games go. Those were the two main ones on the old IBM. If I could go even farther back, there was a game called Haunted House on Atari that was somewhat of a quest game, as was Gertrudes secrets on the IBM. Not sierra adventure type, but somewhat.  Shoot your taking me back before we even had an 8 bit nintendo at our house.
