That's it, really.
I don't have anything to add about the olympics since I'm not interested in it

Unfortunately, all the events that decide medals are played between 1am and 6am our time, so I never get to see any.   :-\

Say, Cesar.... I'd like to take this chance to congratulate you guys on your first medal this Olympics!  OMFGYAY!   XB

Venezuela! WOO!

Grundy: They don't have any tape-delay broadcasts at all? That sucks. :P

And yay, Venezuelan strong-man, kicking some butt! XD

Kyle Shewfelt doesn't medal in the vault. :(  :'(

And more controversy in the gymnastics realm... the Bulgarians protested last night (Greece time, that is) that their silver medalist in Still Rings, Jordan Jovtchev, should have scored higher than the gold medalist, Dimosthenis Tampakos.

Actually, I'm not at all surprised they said something, because I think he got gypped, too. Even Harrison was kind of pissed off... he was giving me this whole spirited blow-by-blow of how Jovtchev's routine was better.

Edit: Looks like I'm not the only one who doesn't like Khorkina.

Yeah, the Canadian coach is disputing the marks that the Bronze medal winner got since it was an overall 9.9 or or something for his first vault but there were some mistakes or something.  And of course that guy fell on his second vault, so that 0.5 or whatever is in question would make the Canadian bronze instead of 4th.  ::)

Jeysie, I love that link :P

And I wonder who started all the contesting of the points  ::).

Jeysie, my mom, sis and I all agree that Jordan Jovtchev should have scored more.  If I remember correctly Dimosthenis Tampakos went first, and got his scores because he was Greek.  Then, of course, the judges can't score anyone higher than him...don't want to make the crowd angry.   ::)  This is beginning to get a little insane...

Tampakos didn't get his score *solely* because he was Greek... it was an excellent routine. But Harrison did think it was a little too high... and then when Jovtchev did what appeared to be a better routine and got scored lower... well...

And then the vault bit... one thing's for sure... this was a bad week and a half to be a men's gymnastics judge.

Did it sound like I said he got it just because he was Greek?  If so, then I SO don't have a way with words :P (which was proven when I took my practice GRE today).  Anyway, I don't remember whether I thought he was scored too high, but I do remember thinking that when the next guy didn't surpass him, it just didn't seem right.  Don't get me wrong, I am sure it's AWESOME to win gold when the Olympics are held in your home country.  I'm glad for him, I just think Jovtchev did a better routine.

Heh. Oops. It was a slightly ambigious sentence.  ;] I guess you meant instead that you thought he went first because he was Greek? I don't think that's right either... it's purely random draw, IIRC. At any rate, if they really wanted to do him a favor due to him being from the host country, they'd have sent him *last*... that's the most desired spot to compete from in a line-up for any judged routine sport.

OK. I can very safely say that this was, in general, the most utterly ridiculous chapter in men's gymnastics I've ever seen at an Olympics. The gymnasts themselves were great... the sheer amount of stuff pulled out of the men's shoes has been generally phenomenal. But all the scoring bizarreness... what an utter mess. :P

Yeah, they show all the events ALL the following day.. but you see, I have a Job.  ;P

Yes, my job is why I only get to see what they air during prime time (all the "big to-do" stuff). ;P

I completely agree with you, Jeysie!  What about the guy with the six releases on the high bar!  Didn't they give him a 9.725?  Or something along that lines.  I'm glad the crowd was protesting it!  Ten minutes of their booing.  But I felt for Paul Hamm, having to wait it out and try to stay loose.  He handled it well.  I feel, though, that after the Russian guy's performance and low score, that Paul's was too high.  I mean, a 9.8(ish) with only three releases.  It seemed kinda tame following the previous performance.  Don't get me wrong, Paul did a great job, but I feel like the other guy should have gotten a higher score.

Apparently Canada withdrew their protest today about it, but still want an explanation as to how they scored the bronze medallist.  Hahah, sounds like something I would want -- an explanation rather than a prize. XD

Anyway, Canada got a silver medal in women's wrestling yesterday, Japan got the gold. XD  Right now I'm watching indoor cycling where Canada's going against Russia for the gold or silver. !!!
