Damn you're getting really good at editing my posts and making it look like a normal conversation! lol!  :suffer:

I mean... how are the Canadians going? What are their best sports?

Yonkey

Hmm, I think it's rowing, triathalon, track and maybe swimming (I can't remember).  Anyway, we'll find out soon!  XD

I have no clue which are the best sports for the USA...we've got a great women's basketball team, I hear...Of course I'm biased about the gymnastics team (I always wanted to be a gymnist, but I don't have the build for it...

I don't watch the olympics enough, to know what our best sports are.

*deletes long and offensive post, for the sake of the forum, and thread*

I'm afraid I don't know which sports the US is best at, because I tend to watch mostly things like gymnastics and diving. ;] I suppose I could guess we're good at "regular" gymnastics (Unfortunately we're not very good at rhythmic gymnastics, which I enjoy watching, so they hardly ever cover it... POO!), and many of the "team" sports.

Uhhmmm, I think we're good at badminton? Oh and squash every now and again :p

Lol sports standards are pretty poor here in the UK.

I was watching some swimming today and USA did really well there!  Canada was like 15th or 17th. ::)

Japan's doing pretty well too.  I heard the commentator say that they had 0 medals in Sydney and 0 in Atlanta, but now have already racked up 5!  XD

"American swimmers broke six world records at the U.S. Olympic trials last month."

Yonkey

Yeah, I was watching when one of 'em broke the World Record again today! XD

I guess the US team isn't doing so hot in the men's gymnastics so far... phooey.

(Truth be told, men's gymnastics isn't really one of my fave sports to watch... too much brute force, not enough grace, IMHO.)

Did anyone catch the Bike race yesterday?
It finished at about 1-2am last night, and I didn't stay up to watch it!? I'm asking cause the aussies had a good chance of the gold stuff in that race!  XD

I just checked http://smh.com.au/olympics/medaltally/
!!!
Aussies are second so far!
China = 4 gold ( 6 medals total )
Aussies = 2 Gold ( 5 medals total )

C'mon Aussies! WOO!

So I guess they must have won a medal or two from that bike race?

;B

Ok, checked, Italy won the bike race... :(

Australia !!!

Australia !!!

P.S. This probably sounds dumb, but what's an air pistol?  ???

Yonkey

Yeah, I heard that event today too... "air pistol" wtf?  Do you get tossed into the air and get to shoot at something? :D

*shoots cameraman by mistake* XD

An air pistol is a bit like a CapGun. :)

Though, Some can fire loud 'caps' others can fire rubber bullets or pellets... etc.

Normally used to start the races. Correct me if I'm wrong though. :)

Since you're refering to an 'event' then the Air Pistols are definitely firing Pellets. (They shoot at targets, winners based on accuracy I think)  ;)

Thanks, I was wondering what the Chinese were doing to get those Gold Medals.

Yah, Grundy's got it right, at least in regards to what they're used for, dunno about the exact hardware specifications. Harrison says that starting guns that emit sound and light are used more now in swimming, though.

And I could swear I've heard air horns being used for starting races before, though Harrison swears I'm nuts. :P

Well, fine sneak posts and edits in there on me and make me look dumb, not that I need any help with that! XD

Quote from: Jael on August 14, 2004, 04:08:54 AMI saw the replay of the opening ceremony today. It was pretty spectacular, but nothing compared to Sydney (no, I'm not biased :P).

We're impartial to both Australia and Greece here, and I've heard people say it was much better than Sydney's. Of course, Sydney was about 4 years ago so I doubt they really remember it :P

I don't give a crap about the olympics, but still - good luck to everyone, especially the Israeli compatitors (YES, there are a couple of those :P). The Israelis compete in several sports, including air pistol - the Chinese aren't the only ones doing that for a gold medal ;)
