Your favorite non-KQ Sierra game?

What is your favorite Sierra game not in the KQ series?
Myself, it is a tie between Space Quest III (which I feel is the best adventure game ever), Laura Bow 2, and Space Quest VI.

Quest for Glory IV.  I want to say V, but... as much as I like it overall, it's got some pretty bad flaws.  I think I've listed some here before.

Easy. Leisure Suit Larry: Box Office Bust.

To be honest, I never had any of the Space Quest games growing up.  I think other than the King's Quest ones, we just had the Disney games like Winnie the Pooh in the Hundred Acre Wood and Mickey's Space Quest.

Oh, and the EcoQuest games plus Mixed Up Mother Goose.

The Winnie the Pooh game was so cute.  I remember playing it years later and just enjoyed it for it being cute.

Quelea

Gabriel Knight: Sins of the Fathers.

I haven't played most of them yet. I've been going through the King's Quest games this summer and I'm onto KQ6 now (I had watched others play them but had not played them myself.) I picked up the Sierra bundle that's on sale right now, so I'll get to the other series eventually.

I know this may be petty, but the graphics in V turn me off. I know it was the early 3D era, so a lot of games from that time look ugly, but (IMO) KQ8 looked ten times better. Also, the controls feel awkward in that game, so it's a game I am ashamed to say I've never really taken the time to play.

I would say that while I enjoyed III the best, I would concur with you that IV is the best in the series. I know each game was supposed to have its own special tone, but I do wish Sierra had made more fantasy adventure games with the dark tone that QFGIV had.

I personally think it's highly possible for well-drawn 2D graphics to look much better than halfhearted 3D graphics. A game like Quake, for all its innovation, is an absolute eyesore to look at today, but back when it came out, it was like magic, which is why it overshadowed Duke Nukem 3D, which I personally think looked better than Quake did. Games that come out today with 2D graphics are usually so stylized and retro-looking that people give them a pass (see any given Mega Man game), whereas current games with 3D graphics are held up to such an insane standard that nobody is impressed by anything anymore. The first Doom game looked awesome when it came out, but of course it got overshadowed by other games with more advanced graphics, even though most of the followup games were lower quality. Meanwhile, Doom 2016 is considered to be one of the best looking games in years, but it too will eventually get overshadowed in time.

I think, if nothing else, KQ7's backgrounds were the most well-drawn in the entire original canon. KQ5 would be a close runner-up in that category. Although I'm not a fan of cel shading, it fits TOG's KQ pretty well, and the backgrounds look very good. Of the fanmade games that have come out so far, KQ3 Redux is by far the most beautiful, with KQ2+ in second place. TSL has gorgeously-animated pre-rendered cutscenes, but the in-game cutscenes tend to be stiff and lifeless. Episode 4 has an egregious tendency to swing back and forth from one to the other. Graham's interactions with the Winged One painter are pretty painful to watch since the latter has only one speaking animation, which is gesturing accusingly at Graham. On the other hand, the dream sequence at the end is amazing...provided your computer is strong enough to handle it and it doesn't just chop all over the place, like what happened to me my first time playing.

And while we're still on the topic of favorite non-KQ Sierra games, I too loved the hell out of QFG4. Visually, it's held up much better than any other QFG game.

I knew it through Apknite and played (and finished) the game when it was in early beta. While many of the mechanics are different, it is undoubtedly a QFG game. It's similar to QFG5 IMO.

It's a toss up for Space Quest 3 or 4.  Such well made games.  That's another franchise that needs some life breathed back into it.

Hmm, that's a good question. I think I'll also go for Quest for Glory IV and V, as they are both fantastic. However, I have to admit that Quest for Glory IV is more "iconic." Space Quest is also a good series, but I think those games actually lack something. I cannot say precisely what, but those games didn't remain in our minds as iconic games for this genre. When I say Iconic, I mean games like Fortnite or even Apex Legends. Games that are used as examples in their genre. Yeah, I'm also a fan of battle royale games, and my favorite one has to be Apex Legends. I adore everything about it. Even the fact that you can use cheats from https://www.iwantcheats.net/apex-legends-hacks-cheats-aimbot/ on different servers for cheaters.

Computers and games occupied almost the central place in my life. Moreover, I certainly played all sorts of arcades and shooting games like my other friends in those years. However, it was more out of curiosity. I don't have much time for games right now. However, I play Minecraft on weekends. The most important thing is to find a safe Minecraft server to play with. Btw, this genre of the game absorbed me completely. I have always been fascinated by story-driven and adventure games. I was always interested in opening doors, climbing caves, and diving into wells.
