I dunno if this belongs in this forum, but...
What are your choices for the most depressing songs? I really don't consider songs from Dashboard Confessional-like bands, because I feel that although the lyrics can be very sophisticated, the matter is extremely shallow. I don't think that alot of "emo" bands write truly depressing songs, they are billed as "sad" bands, etc, but I just don't like "depressing" bands aimed at the 13-16 year old demographic.

I know I'll forget alot of them, but for now, I'll say:
Jimmy Eat World-"My Sundown"
Alkaline Trio-"Sorry About That"
Nirvana-"You Know You're Right"
Nine Inch Nails/Johnny Cash-"Hurt"
Seether-"Fine Again"-It's a downer, although it just might be my favorite song.
Evanescence-"My Immortal" (Don't laugh, I do actually like an Evanescence song, it actually does get me down)

I can't really think of music right now, but these are my picks for now.
"And still we all are so hopeful,
So righteous in our blood.
It looks so tarnished in our eyes,
Yet so afraid of...

Fading into nothing,
Fading into nothing.
Just a trace of light
That burns within our thoughts... "

Kimmie

Take My Breath Away- Berlin (same as no doubt)
Shimmy to the Kimmie

Hmm.

Off the top of my head, I think the only song I've listened to that really made me outright sad was "I Can't Make You Love Me" by Bonnie Raitt.

However, I have heard several songs that I found kind of emotionally troubling to think about, if that counts. Ones I can think of right now:

I'll Fly Away - Barbershop arrangement

In My Room - Beach Boys

Another Day in Paradise
Both Sides of the Story - Phil Collins

No Son of Mine
Jesus He Knows Me - Genesis

One By One - Chumbawumba

Ask Me - Amy Grant

Blowing in the Wind - Mamas and the Papas

And there's a fellow, Sergeant Barry Sadler, who wrote and sang two albums about his experiences being a Green Beret the Vietnam War. All the songs are either sad and mournful, or light-hearted in a gallows humor sort of way.

Quite. You know what else is depressing? I've been a poster here since January...and I only have around 230 posts. And worse than that, I've posted like 10 times in the past 3 1/2 months...

Why does everyone think, that not making 100 posts a day, is a bad thing? ???

Jeysie

I dunno. I've been merrily going along, posting an average of about 20-30 posts a day, and I'm currently kicking the butts of everyone except the 3 forum fanatics royale. ;)

Although Yonkey and Koko will probably kick my butt sooner or later.

Peace & Luv, Liz

Well there's the problem, you guys are doing 20-30 posts a day, I'm doing 20-30 posts every 1/4 of a year lately. I really should start posting more often.  ;D
