What was your first game?

My first games are hard to remember.  Fondest PC game - Defender of the Crown for the Commodore 64.  Now they've put that game on every platform.  But for some reason now the damn game is so hard!  I have it for the gameboy but it's impossible to win now!  Anyway, I loved everything about that game - from building up my army, raiding a castle, and saving a princess.  That game was excellent.  And the music was beautiful.  I remember the tune very well (of course it's been recreated in the ports to other platforms).
Oh, and Karateka - I thought the animation was amazing in that game!

Anybody want to feel old? This even makes me feel old, and I'm only 19:

It's a bunch of 10 year olds reviewing games from the 70s and 80s... :P

I read this in the magazine.  It's quite funny!  They all liked Pac-Man, though ;).

I can't believe they didn't like Mario Bros!  That game ruled!   :suffer:

Ah - the Pokemon generation.  I can't get into those games.  I just don't like collecting monster cards, which is essentially what that is.  It's the same reason I don't play Magic:the Gathering.  Although, I have a sneaky suspicion if I did play it, I'd get sucked into the void that is card-based gaming.  It's bad enough that I'm addicted to Elder Scrolls: Morrowind.  This game is amazing!!! I can't stop playing it.  And I have artwork I have to finish!!!  ARGH!! WHY DID I BUY THIS GAME!?!?!?!?  Because it was less than $20 previously played, that's why.  *sigh*

Mario still kicks a$$!  The original is still fun to play (I have it on the gameboy).  Although his later incarnations (Super Mario 3 and Super Mario World) are even more amazing and fun to play.  And I love Mario64 and Sunshine.

All the Mario games rock! ;D I like Space Invaders too, though I do prefer some of the later reincarnations.

Heh. Magic:The Gathering is actually an extremely interesting game to play. Just do yourself a favor and go for a program like Apprentice instead of collecting the actual cards. It'll do diddley for preventing time waste, but at least your wallet will be spared. ;)

And yeah, I read that article, 'Bushie. I mean, I'm only 23, and I grew up playing all those Atari and NES games, and I thought they rocked. I dunno. I always feel sort of conflicted. It's like, do I feel angry at those kids for not appreciating true non-flashy gaming, or do I look back and realize that, yeah, a few of those old games really did suck, and the only reason we thought they were da bomb is because they were the best things available? <G> I guess I'm just sorta in the middle, like I am on most things.

Of course, my stint in a toy store made me feel even more old... "Goodness! Why the heck is *that* back? There's a *reason* why that toy concept went out of style, you know!", but that would be even more off-topic. <G>

We also had an Atari with all the best games - pacman, defender, space invaders and my personal favorite - Pitfall! Back then my knowledge of the English language wasn't even enough to read the cartridge title, so we just called it Tarazan, after the jungle-call the guy made when you finally got him to swing on those ropes :P

I'm currently playing the original Phantasy Star on my gameboy.  The graphics are horrible, but the game's still fun!

Definitely want to get Mario Kart Double Dash.  It looks like it's going to be a lot of fun.  I loved Diddy Kong racing on the N64, so I am looking forward to this game.  Of course, I never buy a game new, too expensive.  i'll wait a few months and then by it at a much cheaper price previously used.

I think Rampage was one of the first games I played(CoCo).

Since I grew up around computers, it's hard for me to know what the very first video game I played was.

I know what you mean. I have no idea what the first game I ever played was.

I think Cosmic Crusaders in 4 colors for the IBM PCjr was the first game I played.  However, KQ1 for the IBM PCjr was my first real adventure game that I played.

I think mine was some DOS-based pinball game.  But there might have been one before that.  ::)

It occurred to me I guess I never actually answered the question posed by the thread title...

Mostly 'cause I don't really know. ;P It might have been one of Sierra's Disney games, a Sesame Street game, one of my father's program concoctions, a random game from his magazine subscription disks... I would've been like 4 or 5 at the time. ;D Or it maybe might have even been an Atari game... I don't recall how old I was when we got our console.

I prefered the Atari game, where you were the flying saucer(not the other way around).

Jeysie, did you ever play the rubber ducky game(sesame street)? That was fun! ;D
