Well, I guess it's just because I'm unhappy with the city I live in. I like the diversity, but that's the only good thing about it. My current neighbors are, quite franky, rather disturbing, and I know none of the people outside of my apartment building. And many of the young people I listen to on the bus are so disrespectful... always talking about how it sucks because they got arrested the other day for some thing, or they're on probation, or they're going to beat up so-and-so for looking at them funny, or some crap. I remember once listening to an elderly man on the bus insulting some of the other passengers just because they were Hispanic... ugh. My smaller home city was lousy in the job front, which is why I had to move, among other things, but at least the people there were distant but still somewhat decent. These people are distant *and* unpleasant. :P

It's a matter of balance... individuality and independance are important, but having people be too disconnected makes them forget the need to be nice to other people. If you're never going to see someone again, why treat them well? A lot of people seem to have this attitude, it seems.

Oh well, weird ppl is everywhere I guess :D

And yeah one thing that disgust me a lot its also racists but oh well, as I said weirdos are everywhereeeee haha, their lose anyways, they think they are better than everyone then or something to be judging ppl for colors or culture  :-\

Where I live we are not much of a loving kind of ppl anyways!, we know each other and if we ocasionally run into each other we do say hi and stuff but lol thats it :P, but I bet if they would be rude or stuff I would keep myself distant from them :P lol

And you planning to stay there forever Jeysie? eventually you can run away from those weirdos you know :D

I lived most of my life in a very small place, where everybody knows everything about everybody. You can grow up in a small place and still be individual and independent, it depends on your personality rather than your demography  ;)
About diversity and meeting new people - sure there are more people in the big city, but people still tend to have the same little circle of friends, family, neighbours and co-workers rather than go out and meet new people every day  8)

I would like to leave someday. The main problem is that neither me nor my roomie have enough money to do so, and probably won't for a while. Not to mention that we're not entirely sure where we want to move to. Plus trying to find another apartment that actually accepts pets is proving almost impossible.

yeah, you are so right, its a matter of personality rather than demography, anyhow I do feel more comfortable in a city, I've been to small places myself just to visit and well... Im glad it was just a visit, I feel so out of place you know? and no matter what myself I think Im just some sort of a loner hahaha :D

Well, in my case, I was lucky enough that by time I hit high school, the other kids had matured just as much as I had, if not more so. They were old enough to realize that bullying, as well as the typical reasons for engaging in conflict, were mostly stupid, and that there were better ways to handle disagreements. That's not to say there never was any fights or bullying, just that there was far less of it. (And IIRC, it was almost always among the freshmen, not the "more experienced" students.) Plus I was no longer suffering from the fights or bullying, because I had matured enough not to earn such treatment with my behavior, and the fact that my set of classmates was now mostly new meant that nobody would be tormenting me merely based on my old reputation.

I will admit that the fact that my high school was a magnet school for academics and performing arts probably had something to do with it as well. Academics are usually too busy with their noses in books to cause grief for others (not to mention that they probably had to suffer grief themselves earlier on for being "different" than everyone else). Performing arts is competitive, but it's usually a fairly healthy competitive... everyone wants to be good, and only one person gets the starring role, but there's still a sort of camraderie of sharing the experiences of what it's like to gather up enough guts to go out and perform. Performing arts students are too busy being creative to make grief for others, and most likely they also got grief in earlier times for being different, albeit in another way than the academics. (The dress and behavior code at my high school was fairly lax, so my classmates were fairly... unusual, to put it mildly.)

But still, I think that at least having the opportunity to try and shed a negative reputation is better than being stuck with it your whole school career.

It's not fair that Say got a "Global Moderator"  title  :(
Now I'll have to wait till I get there myself to know what the next title is, and at the rate I'm posting, that's not going to happen soon  :P

Hmmmm bullying. I was quite lucky when I was growing up, I had an older sister to watch over me plus all her friends and her (at that time) boyfriend who was respected/feared throughout the school. Although I feel it was a kind of false sense of security I'm grateful for it as some of my friends were bullied quite badly although never to an extreme that I'm always reading about in papers or hearing on the news.

When my sister left school tho (she was four years ahead of me) there wasn't any bullying as such towards me but people tended to not be as careful around me as they used to be.
Heh nowdays no one can be bothered to bully people (in 6th form that is), we all just spend our free periods discussing random topics and throwing paper at each other  :P

Re:performing arts, yeah Jeysie I really do agree about that bond. In my music group we all take part in school productions (42nd Street[AGH TAP!], Grease etc) and it brings everyone together, even people who you wouldn't really associate with. Plus us creative types are too nice to bully any one  ;D

It's not that I don't want you to be a mod, Say... It's just now when you get to the next level (after "Magical Genie") we won't get to see what the next title is  :P

What did happen at the Tierra boards, T-Knight?  ???

Nah, Sir Dot, the best and most time-honored way to crash a forum is to virtually marry off two of the members. (laughs)
