My only guess for the 'sayd' element of your name is that it's from Arabic. I found this on it:

Sayd: in the language terminology to mean fish catching or birds' hunting. As a noun, it refers to the name of one protective area, or a refugee settlement.

Sounds a little strange for a girl's name, though. I prefer to think that it comes from the Arabic word sa'id, which means 'lucky' or 'happy'.

The second element, 'mell', is easy enough. It's obviously from the Latin mel, mellis or it's Greek cognate which means, appropriately enough, 'honey'. Honey = sweet, ergo you = sweet.

So then, if my deductions are not in error, your full name means either lucky honey or fish-catching honey, lol!

Neil and a few ones have heard me talking by phone or by skype with them, and the amusing part is that they've always went the first time like "this is who?!..." lol, because everyone (even at work!) tends to say 'Say' as the verb, so when I say it how I say it everyone goes like "...who?" lol, and that's only with Say, go figure if I said 'Saydmell' alright , only my close ones, as in my family, close friends, and my bosses say it correctly (or at least I care to make sure they know how to say it! lol)

Yes, yes it's the spanish diphtong form, but in english it translates different (that's why everyone has a way to 'figure it out' or a way to say how they pronounce it as it seems

I actually like your interpretation out of it 'lucky honey' sounds neat, but truth is I don't really have sit down and try to figure it out how could I 'translate' my name, I hate it when I say my name and noone gets it, that's where Say came from, and as a matter of fact someone said that to me once by mistake and I kept it, it seriously annoys me big time whenever I have to say my whole name noone gets it, and it's horrible the kind of combinations that I've got in my life... I feel like everyone has been renaming me always lol

So, that's why I prefer Say, at least is easier to explain than Saydmell, and yet till nowdays I do have to explain it a lot still (as in when I introduce myself in business meetings, new clients, new colleages... work stuff) and the funny thing is that everyone who knows the whole thing, always asks lol I'm going to print it out or something!!

Yes, yes it's the spanish diphtong form, but in english it translates different (that's why everyone has a way to 'figure it out' or a way to say how they pronounce it as it seems

Phonetically, it would be spelt /saI/.  That's how we translate "sigh," and since that's how I've heard Alex pronounce Say's name, that's how I translated it.

BTW, I love your name, Say.  It just kinda rolls off the tongue, I guess.  And if you're ever feeling down, all you have to do is go "sigh"...then someone says, "what's wrong, Say?"  Ok, I'm probably the only one who found that interesting...I'm going to go now

Actually, ever since I found out you were Venezuelan (which was pretty early on) the “voice in my head” has been pronouncing it approximately like 'sigh'. Does that mean I’m a close friend? Please say yes!

At least I got the language of origin correct. ‘Mistage’ is a cool sounding name, too. I had forgotten that Latin American and Spanish families give their children a second last name from the mother’s maiden name. (That's correct, right?) My second last name then would be ‘Bruining’, and as far as I know I’m 100% European. A Euro-mut, if you will. Half Dutch, quarter English, and some few "pints" of Welsh, French, and German blood. Yet ‘Kevin’ is an Irish name, and I haven’t any consanguineous roots with Ireland at all.

Well, both those words are derived from Latin, so I was at least partially correct. In fact, all the Romance Languages get their word for ‘honey’ from the Latin mel, mellis. Spanish miel, Portuguese mel, Italian miele, Roumanian miere, Catalan mel, Occitan (Provençal) mèl. The French is also miel, but maybe your mom took it from an older French root, like from Norman French or something?

Yes, I can see how annoying that would be. You’ve probably wished on more than one occasion that you had been named something mundane, like María perhaps. Not that María is a bad name, but I think it’s cool that your mother actually put some thought and effort into making your name have meaning. My parents probably just flipped through a book of baby names and the first name their finger stopped on was Kevin.

Yeah, you should print out a bunch of little pieces of paper about the size of a business card with the explanation of your name on it, and then whenever you go to a business meeting you can just pass it around to everyone without saying a word.
