I made this thread, to avoid sending the "Home Photos!" thread off-topic. :P

I looked at the pic of the tree, and I've seen that kind of tree before(or some that looked similar), but I became confused.

This link explains the confusion(I think). :-\
Gumtrees

Also, here's what a Black Gumtree looks like.

A Sweetgum

and a eucalyptus

I used Google to find the images(that sweetgum looks odd to me).

P.S. If I'm wrong, would someone PLEASE explain it?

Eh, maybe you missed the underlined part of the definition:

Quotename for the eucalyptus (see myrtle) in Australia and for several other trees

So they're not all necessarily eucalyptus, and don't all look the same :S

I noticed. I was just using their examples, to show that a "gum tree", isn't actually one type of tree. :)

I'm guessing it depends on what region of the world you live in. :-\

Storm

Maybe "gum tree" is just used all over for some trees with a similar quality :S

And darn you for getting me to post about gum trees :P

"Gum Tree" is Aussie 'SLANG' for eucalyptus trees...
Where as Sweet Gum and Black Gumtree are unrelated, just a coincidence that our slang is the same as their 'real' names.

;)

If you've ever visited Australia, you will know that almost every bloody tree here is a eucalypt.   ::)

Louisiana Night

We have "slang" for trees here also, but they're less confusing(and less known).

example=tickle-tongue tree

reason for the name= bark has a numbing effect

Hmm, when I went to the Lost Gardens of Heligan there was a tree that was literally nicknamed "The Headache Tree." It was a very rare and old specimen (I am uncertain about the species) but it literally gives you a severe headache if you sniff the leaves (they tried to get a tree surgeon to trim it recently and he had to go home after suffering a migraine  and becoming violently ill!) Sorry if that was a little off-topic, I just felt like posting a useless fact and I know naught about gum trees!  ;D
When cities burn and armies turn,
and flee in disarray,
Cowards will cry 'tis best to fly
and fight another day.
But warriors know it in their marrow when they die and fall,
It is better to have fought and lost than not have fought at all.

It's not off-topic, I changed the title of the page to "trees". :D

Never thought there was a tree, that could cause a headache just by smelling it though. :-\

Kimmie

omg we have a tree thread  :suffer:
Shimmy to the Kimmie

I <3 Connor but he is beyond my reach!

Yup! Seen it myself! (They won't let you go near it though because of that!)  ;D
