There isn't an AMD processor with a 3ghz clockspeed(to the best of my knowledge). ;P

*Attemps to find an AMD CPU faster than 3ghz*

AMD's CPUs might not have the clockspeed of Intel's, but I'll claim AMD's are faster/better(more efficient, and the 64/FX line have 64-bit processing). 8)

Unfortunetly, so far the only software that benefits from 64's technology is "WindowsXP 64bit Edition"  :-[. I always prefer AMD over INTEL due to the increased gaming capabilities  8)

or UT2004(for Linux, not sure about Windows) :D

Also, there are the programs that weren't meant for PCs(like server software). :-\

Now that I think about it... Linux has a good deal of 64bit programs(by comparison to Windows).

Intel is paying AMD, and I'll be enjoying that for a LONG time. 8)

Has any1 here so called "OverClocked" their CPU?

Louisiana Night

I have...

but I'm leaving my current CPU like it is. :P

GravityMX

Does "DownClocking" the CPU make it last longer? I heard a majority of CPU's these days are overclocked by the manifacturer.  ???

What would be the point? If you leave it at it's default clockspeed, it's going to last long enough(long enough to become obsolete). Unless it's defective. ;P

They leave it where Intel/AMD/other says it's safe to, otherwise, the company would be liable for any damages/defects(they'd probably have to pay for it). :P

Although, some companys(like Alienware) overclock them(and are willing to pay for a defective CPU), but AMD/Intel won't take responsibilty for a defective part.

Also, AMD and Intel make most(AMD allows their FXs to be overclocked) of their CPUs with protection against overclocking(an overclocker would have to bipass the protection).

I don't have a top-ace fan/heatsink with mine  :-\. With summer fast approaching im scared its going to overheat. (turning it off is not an option)

I guess you could see if it helps... but I've never tried it. :-\

GravityMX

It came up with an error message telling me turn return it back to its default multiplier (11x)  :-\  :-X
