People keep talking about the Adventure genre being/not being dead. There are many genres in worse shape, that at one time, had a larger audience than Adventure games.....

Flight sims=As far as I know, there are only two combat based series' and two normal/generic series'(in the US)

Driving/Racing sims=I can only think of two series', at the moment(I'm talking about simulations, not arcade games)

PC fighting games(Street Figher)=About the time Windows came around, they almost all stopped being made/ported for the PC(in the US, I think there has been only one made this year)

*waits for additions to the list*

Text Adventures are dead :-\, I only know of one text adventure and it was named Radical Dreamers ;D, it was actually a sequel to Chrono Trigger ;)

Well, text adventures are dead pro commerically, but there's a thriving amateur IF community.

Hmm. I dunno if the genre was ever popular, but you seldom see puzzle games anymore, except from the semi-pro crowd.

What kind of puzzle games do you mean? Stuff like Lemmings, stuff like Tetris, or something else?

Turn-based Strategy=I'm not sure if it's dead, but it's in poor shape. Ever since 3DO(Heroes of Might and Magic) went out of business, the only decent one I've seen, is WarlordsIV(and maybe an Age of Wonders game).

sivvrianBARRY

Vertical scrolling shooters. There was one a year or so ago for Gamecube, Ikaruga, but that was it.

Storm

Side-scrolling platform games. They don't fit very well with 3D so they're pretty much DOOMed :P

What? You've never heard of Doom2D? ::)

PC party games
Look at the consoles, they've got plenty(especially the Gamecube). All the PC gets, are 3D board games. :(

*waits for a Smash Bros./Mario Party port* XD

P.S. Yes, there's a 2D Doom sidescroller. ;P
