I restarted my computer the other day, to find a noticeable message on the screen. I didnt realise what It was until I had logged on to my profile. It says that theres a corrupt file in the registry and cant load my usual profile, so it has put in this temporary (ROM) profile. I share my computer with 2 other users and they can still log on successfully, and have their normal profiles running fine.

Is there a way to recover from this? I tried system restore with no avail.  ??? I dont want to reformat and reinstall windows.

Racx said I should post in here since some of the guys have substancial knowledge about the registry. As for me, I wouldnt know where to start.
The log file is posted below!

Pls Help

Windows was unable to load the registry. This is often caused by insufficient memory or insufficient security rights.

DETAIL - The configuration registry database is corrupt.  for C:\Documents and Settings\JOSHUA\ntuser.dat

For more information, see Help and Support Center at http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp.

If you have the password, I'd just become the admin, make a new profile, and send the files to the new profile.

P.S. Works in Linux, no idea if the admin has the right to all files in XP. :-\

Yonkey

Yep, I would log into one of the accounts that has Administrator access, copy the files over and then delete the JOSHUA account, as well as everything in the \JOSHUA directory.

If you want to keep your profile as it is...

Log into XP with another profile that has Admin rights.

Change the security settings of YOUR profile to something like poweruser...  Reboot, see if you can log in. If successful, log into an Admin account again and change your rights back to Admin aswell.    ;)

See how that goes.

Okay, so I got into my mums profile, and went to change my profile to admin. It says im already admin  ???. Then I went and accessed my files, to see if I could just copy them over. They werent there.
2 folders-
"My Pictures"
"My Music"

^^^ The same two folders that u get when u first make a profile!

I just made a new profile "GravityMX" in case I have to start over.....

p.s. Racx said to copy files from one registry from the next :S

Yonkey

Do not copy the ntuser.dat file from the \JOSHUA directory to your mom's, or you'll lose that account as well.  The My Pictures and My Music directories will be in \Documents and Settings\JOSHUA\My Documents folder.

Do not copy the ntuser.dat file

Well, I sorta already knew that. I really need this data back (6 months of work).

:scholar: :bomb:

Would I be able to trust any1 with remote assistance?

Grundy

I never use the 'My folder'!  EVER!
Don't trust them... for the reasons you're having now.  ;)

Could'nt I just get a program that repairs my registry like  Registry medic?

You could try looking for a program that specializes in repairing the Windows XP registry (perhaps Registry Medic will work?), but I think your better off just copying the files you need and deleting that directory.

I can't get into that directory from other profiles even though their all admins. The folder is private. There must be another way to get in.....

Okay, I finally remembered that the folder C:\JOSHUA is hidden *punches himself*.

...............................................................................
D:\JOSHUA is not accessible
Access is denied
...............................................................................

^^^This is the prompt that i get whenever I go and try to access my folder from other accounts/profiles. I went to properties and.......

it says there are no files in the folder  ???  ???  ???  :-\  :'(

I also located the ntuser.dat file

OMFG *wacks head on desk 1,000,000 times*

The files that were on D:\JOSHUA were hidden  >:(. Hidden files were shown under this folder to prevent others (brother) from access most of my files, thus erasing them. When ever i access my folder usually, they werent hidden cos i changed the settings under properties, but windows must of changed them when it couldnt load my profile.

I go into the folder, and copied those files to my new folder D:\GravityMX.

And to think, i was 4 days away from reformatting when my files were there the whole time :O

Guys, remind me to never post an idiot thread like this again.
