You sound like my roomie... except he's into barbershop. ;) He always criticizes me for the fact that I like listening to barbershop, but not singing it. (Never mind that even back when I could sing without sounding horrible I never had the ear for acapella. (shrug))

Going with my sports comparison, Acapella would have to be the "golf" of music world.  It's not much fun unless your pretty good at it.

Living in Philly, I've sung in lots of harmony groups over the years, when Boys II Men were big.  In fact we shared many of the same teachers and instructors.  Unfortunately, I REALLY suck at Golf! :(

I am definitely an opera fan.

Well I guess this poll is closed, but if were still open I'd have voted "Alternative/Rock/Metal". I'm not much into any of the new stuff in the Rock genre at all though. Of course there are a few good contemporary rock songs every once in a while, but as far as music goes, I wish I lived back sometimes between the mid-sixties and mid-eighties. Most of the rock I like is dated in there somewhere. Pretty much the only radio stations I listen to are Classic Rock.

I liked a bit of the alternative rock movement of the early 90's too, especially Nirvana and Soundgarden, and Alice in chains, etc. I never liked punk that much, but the Sex Pistols were cool and I like most of their music, and I love the Ramones! Don't like any of the new Pop-punk (an oxymoron) stuff though.

Errr... what else. I really don't like rap or care for Hip-hop in general, though I can understand how some people like it. It's just not my style. And I don't especially care for Country either, but I do think some people are a little too adamant in their express dislike of it. I do like the earlier southern Country-Rock stuff though, which kind of fits under Classic rock, but it's different enough to mention. Lynyrd Skynyrd is awesome!

Okay, I guess I'll try to list some of my favorite bands and artists here now, but it's impossible to list them all and I don't really have a constant favorite. Well, here goes (in no particular order): Led Zeppelin (of course), Sabbath, most of Ozzy's solo stuff, Hendrix, Blue Öyster Cult, Deep Purple, Cream, Metallica, Nirvana, Soundgarden, Alice in Chains, Mötorhead, Iron Maiden, AC/DC, Sex Pistols, the Ramones, the Eagles, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Steve Miller Band, Van Halen, Mötley Crüe (though hate Tommy Lee), Pink Floyd (can't believe I almost forgot), Guns 'n' Roses, Jefferson Airplane, Heart (the only chick-band I ever liked), Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers.........and many, many of others I'm sure I've forgotten to mention. Damn, it's hard to come up with them all on the spot!  :-\

If anyone thinks they know a band/artist who might fit into my favorites category there, I'd appreciate the help. I'm sure I missed a ton! So basically most of the Rock I like is pretty heavy, but certainly not all of it.

That's all.

Stone temple pilots? Scorpions? The Pixies?
(I'm just naming some of the artists all the "hip kids" used to listen to back when I was in elementary school... most of your list belongs in that category ;))

Hey, thanks for the welcome Storm!
Anyway, I was thinking of some more while I was driving to and fro between work/school/home, and I came up with quite a few. Unfortunately, my memory absolutely sucks...
All I can remember now is Alice Cooper, Judas Priest, and *applaus for Storm* the Scorpions. As for STP, though they've got a few good songs, I wouldn't list them as favorite. And Pixie? herm.... no.

And also, though I'm sure a lot of the "in" crowd when you were in high school liked these kind of bands, not so when I was there. I was never a "cool kid" or anything like that, though I wasn't reviled as an outcast either. I had a number of friends who you might classify as being in this group, and for the most part I was respected by them in my later years at H.S., though that certainly wasn't always the case throughout my public education schooling. But back to my point: I mean to say that my taste in music was never explicitly influenced by friends or the like. I started to get drawn towards earlier (or what many call "classic") Rock just listening to some of my dad's old vinyl records. I remember he had some Eagles, Hendrix, and Skynyrd albums (and a lot of crappier stuff besides), and from there I started to tune into classic rock stations on the radio. Been hooked ever since. And BTW, of my two closest friends the one listens to oldies, R&B, and light "rock" stuff, and the other pretty much just contemporary rock. So they really haven't influenced my tastes, as you can see.

Listen to Harry Connick, Jr. play the piano or Miles Davis blow the horn while that someone special (still looking) rests her head on your shoulder... Ummm... That's what music is ALL about.

I absolutly love Harry Connick Jr <3

I used to play the piano as well, that's one of the most beautiful things I ever did I guess... I stopped so long ago though :(

So far I can play piano, clarinet, hammer dulcimer, and theremin. I don't think I'll be adding in any new instruments yet though. ;) Unless you count the computer. ;)
