I liked all the other KQ's, but now my next favourites are KQ1VGA & KQ2VGA from AGDI
I agree.  After KQ6, my next two favourites are KQ2VGA and KQ1VGA.  They're technically not part of the actual series, but they're way better than the Sierra originals. ;D

Beware of your blasphemous statements, we know where you live! *gathers an angry KQ mob* XD :D

omg Neil.. how in the *peep* did you get drawn to work on kq9 then hahaha XD. As a huge kq3 fan (up till the part where you have to get on the ship at the tavern, cuz it always crashed on my 8088 back in the days... never got to finish it, maybe that's why its my favorite) I feel a bit disappointed by you Neil :P damn... putting agdi's games above Sierra's lol.. tsk tsk *slaps Neil

Har, didn't you know - Neil is a spy from AGDI sent to spy on the KQIX project! XD

J/K, but seriously, feels good to know that *somebody* else out there doesn't regard AGDI's remakes as better than the originals. I still have nightmares about the voicepacks  :-X

You guys like the original KQ2?  Its plot barely made sense... XD  Not to mention the graphics... ::)

I've never played KQ3 or completed KQ4 and KQ5 had too many dead-ends (and horrid voice acting ;P).  KQ7 was ok, but the whole cartoon thing isn't my style, and of course MoE is not even in my ranking.

So yup my top three are: KQ6, KQ2VGA, KQ1VGA.  ;D

In my opinion, I'd have to say that KQ6 is the best, while KQ3 is my least favorite. I haven't gotten around to trying the remakes of 1 & 2 yet.

90% of the plot did made sence, but 5% did not.

A guy named Wookie from AGDI decided to create a character with his own storyline, that did not make sence at all.

The cursing at the end of the game was good enough, but the Father needs Graham's Crown to look for some item so that he can be more powerful then Leginemor.

So why he is part of the Black Cloak, is beyond me.

The Father does not get killed, he wont return in KQ3VGA or KQ9, but Graham said that he will find out who the man is and The Father said at the second Cloud Test that he forsees that he and Graham will meet again.

I think the important thing to remember is that, you can always improve something, but that's not always what everybody wants, and not regarded as an improvement by everybody. It's just like the Star Wars Special Edition issue, some loved it, some hated it, because it altered the thing they had come to love so much beyond what they felt was reasonable recognition. It's the same with the early KQ's because, I've come to love them just as they were and are, that includes the graphics and everything else. You know, back then they were good! And they still are just as good to me, because it's how I remember them, it's what I grew up with, so AGDI's remakes are fun, but they're not even in the same league as the originals, not even.  ::)

I know a guy who completed the original KQI (the all-text version) and he got a certificate from Sierra and has it  framed on his wall. Apparently, he is one of very few.

There was an all text version of KQ1? Uhm. News to me! Or I just forgot, I have such a bad memory. Anyone care to fill me in about it? :P

Lollotte

Yeah. It's supposed to be really hard, and it was the original KQI, before it was redone/animated. Since you couldn't see anything, you had to type all your commands and read all the responses very closely.

Example:

KQ: You are in a cave. There are several big boulders in the left corner, and a stick to the side. the ground has caved in slightly.

You: Pick up the stick.

KQ: Graham has taken the stick.

1st Release (1983, IBM PCjr) - The original IBM-branded release for the PCjr. Came with a full keyboard overlay template.

2nd Release (1984, IBM PCjr) - A minor update to the original packaging. Includes a smaller function key template.

3rd Release (1984, Tandy) - A release repackaged for the Tandy 1000.

4rd Release (1984, PC,Apple,Amiga,Atari) - A set of ports for IBM PCs, Apple, Amiga and Atari computers.

5th Release (1987, PC) - A full re-release adding support for the Enhanced Graphics Adaptor (EGA). Ran under DOS, unlike the 1983-1984 releases, which booted directly at startup.

6th Release (1990, PC) - This release is the "Enhanced" version of King's Quest. It uses the Sierra Creative Interpreter (SCI) engine, the same engine used in titles such as King's Quest IV; while it still used 16-color graphics, it featured twice the resolution as well as music card support instead of the PC speaker. There are two different box variations for this release.

As found on Wikipedia.. :P

I also searched around otherwhere, but I can't seem to find anything on an All-Text version of King's Quest..  :-\

Maybe your friend is pulling your leg?  :D
"Ask not what your forum can do for you, ask what you can do for your forum"

Lollotte

Nope. It was eliminated awhile ago. Apparently no one wants to play anything that is text-only anymore. It definitely won't run on today's computers anyways.

My dad played the all-text version; he couldn't finish it.   :P

Yes.  That part of KQ2VGA I didn't like, and there's even a thread somewhere where I kept asking Erpy about why they introduced a new loose end when they're not planning on continuing it.

I agree, someone that can fly and time-travel needs to be given the crown? ::) I think they could have rethought that a bit better.

I think it was just to make him seem like the supervillain controlling everything evil in that game, and future KQ games since the Black Cloak Society is part of the official series

They did meet again... at the end of the game. :P  Since they're not doing a KQ3VGA and "The Father" isn't part of our plot, he won't be returning again. ;P

I agree, and I wasn't wanting them to remake it either.  I just happened to visit their site one day and got a pleasant surprise!  It's not as if I'd ever play the original KQ1 or KQ2 these days anyway, so once I found out that KQ1VGA was 1:1 remake (plot-wise) I figured I'd try it.  KQ2 was more of a treasure hunt than a game, and the original plot didn't make much sense.  AGDI acknoledged this and remade this game with a more fleshed-out plot.  For those reasons, I prefer them to the originals.  Of course, had they done a horrible job, I wouldn't even consider them. :P

Anyway, I know there are purists out there that believe nothing can top originals.  Usually I agree with that, but since I didn't like the originals to begin with and I found these to be a great improvement, they rank #2 and #3 in my list. :)

Maybe it was a beta never-released version? Or maybe someone ported King's Quest into a text adventure, because nowhere does it say anything about one.. ;P

Some fans made a text-only version of a KQ game, but I dont think it was KQ1(KQ5?)... though it might have been(Storm posted a link a while back).

EDIT:
Kings Quest V: the text adventure

Storm

I'm pretty sure there was no text-only version of KQ1 released by Sierra. The only 'pure' text adventure they ever published was SoftPorn Adventure - the rest of their text adventures had pictures. Besides, KQ1 was originally created to showcase the graphical abilities of IBM's new PCjr. Making a text version of it first would have been a bit redundant :-\

Er, where exactly does he fly or time-travel? ??? I mean, he levitates a bit at the end but that's it :S
And maybe the crown is one of those magical things that can't be taken, only given... a good plotwriter can fill any hole ;)
You're right about KQ2+ leaving the fans hanging though. Maybe Wookie did that on purpose, so they'll have to hire him if they ever re-made KQ3 ;)
"Never argue with idiots. They'll drag you down to their level and beat you with experience."

Yonkey

Yeah, I meant the levitation thing at the end. :P  And by time-travel, I meant when he appeared in one of the dream tests.  Actually... he didn't even really time-travel, he was just alive in the future. XD

Favourite: King's Quest VI. The only KQ that is truly epic IMO. Great story, great characters, great voice acting, great graphics, great music, great EVERYTHING!

...just the death scenes with the Lord of the Dead scare the crap of me. Alexander gone all skeletonized, as well as that freaky rendition of the death music... geh.

Worst IMO was KQV. Dead ends, unexpected deaths, and atrocious voice acting. Even so, it still made a decent game. MOE doesn't count as a KQ game IMO, otherwise that one (despite being a decent action/adventure) would be my pick.

KQ 6 was by far the best King's Quest game. The story, the character, and the graphics were all very good.  ;D

Of course, if you count it as a KQ game, MoE was the worst. If you don't, the worst one (comparitively) was KQ5. :stupid:

Rosedragon

If MOE counts as a king's quest game, then it is the worst. My favorite is KQ7 and KQ6. I like KQ7 and think it is a good game despite the fact that most KQ fans don't like it. I find the cartoony graphics beautiful, Etheria was simply gorgeous. It was a lot easier, but that made it easier for me to finish, I have some trouble with hard puzzles.
