I don't doubt that. I know a caucasian kid who is fluent...his accent is incredible!  :o

Quote from: Lollotte on August 15, 2005, 07:31:44 PMMaybe...if you know English well. English is a Germanic language, so some of the words sound similar.
But in English, you don't have genders (or at least they don't show in the 'the'), and in German you have three (der/die/das). :o

In Hebrew, the genders don't show in the 'the' either - you just use 'Ha' for everything. However, gender does show in verbs & adjectives, so it's pretty unavoidable ;)

BTW - can anyone see my sig or does it read like gibberish?

Good ( umm...birds? ) eat salad alone?... :P

Better to ( have a bird?... ) than to eat salad alone? ::)

So, Storm, are you going to translate... or am I going to have to dig up my dictionary? :P

I can see it!  Normally, I don't have these other font languages installed, but since I'm on a school comp I see Arabic, Chinese, Russian, etc.  It's weird because now my spam e-mails actually look somewhat useful. XD

Great guess! ;) How did you figure it? I couldn't find an online translator for hebrew :-\
It's actually a line from a song, that translates to something like "Better one bird in hand than to just eat salad alone". :P

err... let's just say I've been exposed to it(though not enough to know what a hand is ::) ). ;)

and Old Hebrew having vowels still bugs me. ;P

I think it was the 'in' prefix that confused you ;)

What's wrong with vowels? ???

Nothing... unless you've been told all your life that  the language doesn't have them. ;P

Actually, since you seem to be posting in this thread a lot lately, that comment you made about Old Hebrew having vowels... mind clearing that up? :P

Storm

No problem ;D
As far as I know and read/write, Modern Hebrew is written pretty much like Old Hebrew, and both have vowels. However, if the word isn't punctuated, sometimes it's hard to tell which vowel it is (eg. one letter might stand for both 'o' and 'u', depending on the punctuation).

Actually, that translates to "please" or more specifically "I beg of you".

But given he posted that 5 months ago, I doubt he's waiting for me to say "you're welcome". :P
"A wish changes nothing. A decision changes everything."

Rosella

You're welcome would be "de rien." Which is kind of like "It's nothing." ...Right? :P
