While The Last Battle IS depressing, it has a happy ending.

A happy ending?!!?? everyone died!! I can't see what's so happy about that ::) :P
Didn't you read the part after Tirian went through the stable door? They were in the real Narnia then, and reunited with all their friends for eternity! Wouldn't you call that a happy ending?

Not all who wander are lost
The old that is strong does not wither
Deep roots are not touched by the frost

From the ashes a fire shall be woken
A light from the shadows shall spring
Renewed shall be blade that was broken
The crownless again shall be king

No! I don't find "they all died and went to heaven" a heck of a lot happier :-\

I've never read the Last Battle.  My favorite is the Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, and the Voyage of the Dawn Treader.

Then I think you miss the point entirely. :P It's a perfect ending, none of this "who knows what happens" business. :P Quite profound: "All their life in this world... had only been the cover and the title page: now at last they were beginning Chapter One of the Great Story, which no one on earth has read, which goes on forever and in which every chapter is better than the one before."

The thing I always HATE about finishing a series is that it's the end and yet it never really is and stuff is still left hanging. This doesn't tell you specifics, but it's comforting none the less, it has closure. I liked it. *shrugs*

I do get the point, I just don't like it much ::)
I don't care much for open endings either, but this kind of "everything that happened up to here was meaningless, now they're going to have much better adventures you're not going to hear about" closure isn't much more comforting :-\

For those who are unaware, Walden Media & Walt Diney has released a trailer for downloading, which can be found at either http://www.narnia.com/ or http://www.narniaweb.com/default.asp
. The NarniaWeb site has constant updates for news about The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardobe as soon as it comes out.
All that is gold does not glitter
Not all who wander are lost
The old that is strong does not wither
Deep roots are not touched by the frost

From the ashes a fire shall be woken
A light from the shadows shall spring
Renewed shall be blade that was broken
The crownless again shall be king

I liked "The Silver Chair" a lot, and I hated "The Last Battle". However, I also really liked the one where the two kids discover Jadis and bring her to Narnia on accident. That one was pretty haunting.  :)
My namesake is the one you'll love to hate
Maybe it's because she's different--not the same
And such an identity satisfies my artistic brain...
I love King's Quest!
It's insane!

That would be The Magician's Nephew. I love the intensity the first time you read about the hall of the kings and queens where Digory wakes Jadis.

I had to vote for the Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe.
It was the first in the series that I ever read, and quite possibly the first book that I read multiple times.

I really hope that the movie can at least come close to living up to my expectations.....

I hate when they ruin the story of a book in an attempt to make a movie.... >:( :bomb: >:(

I'm with you on that! ;) But from everything I've seen, the movie is going to stay very close to the book.

The trailer is looking very LoTR-y :/ I hope they dont just concentrate on the battle scenes in an attempt to pick up where LoTR left off in its war against Harry Potter lol.

*nods in agreement* This is what Im worried about. Narnia's plot is a farcry from Lord of the Rings, or any war-centered story. They would have done better to try their hand at the Shannara series. I have no confidence in Disney's respect for the preservation of the original story. They'll have Peter flying around on eagles slaying dragons before you know it. Not good.

I don't debate, I ramble with STYLE!

koko_99_2001

lol...that took me a few readings to get it. When I first saw "Peter," I was thinking Peter Jackson XD So sue me, it's been years since I've read the books!

Anyway, I hope to be the voice of optimism and say that I don't think that we'll have much to worry about. No reason in particular, except I want both sides represented so when the movie comes out, at least on person can say "I told you so" :P

I don't have confidence in Disney either. Fortunately, it's Walden Media who's directing, filming, and writing the script for the movie. Disney is just in there to pay the budget and pump out all the copies of the movie (and to rake in the cash :P).
