Based upon my double posting in another thread, i feel that I may have bad forum ettiquette.

I know that there are guides out there (I haven't spied a kq9 forum rules thread as of yet though?) however I was thinking maybe people could just add to this thread, things that piss them off about forums, maybe:
a) something someone does,
b) something about forums in general.

for example:

I hate when:
a) someone posts twice in a row and doesn't use the edit feature (like I did, oops. well that's just my example)

b) a thread is like 50 pages long and you read through it all and you realise that the issue becomes resolved or that you don't have any opinion to post... :(

also! a sidenote: does anyone know why i can't use the search feature to find post's that I've made?

ta! :)

Hehe joking aside, this is an interesting thread. And there aren't any rules persay, other than treat other people with respect and regard to their feelings, don't discuss politics or religion and don't spam. There was a more official thread somewhere, but it's like pretty impossible to find, maybe someone who reads this thread will know of the link.

I'm not totally sure this thread is appropriate (or placed in the right section) but I'll make Yonkey make that call. I do agree with you though, that there are irky things about forums, but hey, you can't really escape that :)

And yes, if you go to your profile, you will be able to search for posts that you have made recently. If you meant more specific search as in the actual search function, then maybe you have a firewall or otherwise blocking it, or it's just not working for you like it doesn't seem to do for others as well (myself included..)

Anyhow, you're welcome ;D

thanks for the recent messages advice, i'll try that. \

I'm a big fan of the email notification of replies to posts. I wish you could set it up to always send you notification, I always forget to check the box and find it daunting to find the threads i've posted to.

Don't worry.  This is actually the perfect place to post this thread. :)

Regarding the Search, if you search for * and enter in the poster's name, it will find all posts by that user, made in the past X days (the min and max post age is at the bottom of the page).

As Jesse said, the easiest way to find all the posts made by someone or yourself, is to go to the Profile screen and use the dropdown at the bottom of that page.

Regarding e-mail notifications, you are able to automatically subscribe for e-mail notifications on reply, but not in this version of the forum.  Once we upgrade, you'll be able to do this.  In the mean time, you'll just have to remember to check the box, or click the Notify button when you're reading a thread.

I figured out how to use the search, (I realised that the user field was a filter, not criteria) but the * wildcard will come in handy.

Thanks a lot. :)

Yeah, I agree it's a bit odd, but when I added the ability to use * as a wildcard (originally, it was impossible to search for all posts this way), that's when I noticed the poster name was mandatory.  I guess if it allowed you to search for * and leave the poster blank, it puts too much strain on the database.

I find the forum MUCH easier to use now that I know how to search properly. Hats off to your wildcard feature sir! I don't think that I will even use the email reply notification anymore.

I think I like this forum better than phpbb, it seems slimmer and sexier, but all the features seem to be here in one shape or another.
