Why does everyone hate MoE and Conner so muc?

I relize that MoE was a different style game from the others and that it wasn't as puzle based but i still think it was a good game. Also i didn't mind Conner's character. With a little reworking i actually liked him. i am woking on a fanfic series involving Conner being Graham's Nephew.

So the question is why did everyone else hate it so much?

its becuase its an action game unlike the rest of the series, and because most of the older players (current one too?) aren`t very fond of those types of games.

I myself have nothing against Connor (check signiture  ;) )

MoE is not a KQ game. Notice the filter if you try to type K-Q-8 (without the dashes, of course.) It doesn't have a member of the royal family. If faced with a decision in KQs 1-6 where you had the oppurtunity to kill something, or solve the problem a different way, solving the problem gave you more points. In MoE you HAVE to kill stuff. Lots of stuff. I'm not saying it's a bad game, it's just doesn't belong in the KQ series. However, I disagree with Raf on one point.

This is a fine section mate, and welcome to the forum!

In response to your question and Rosella's comments. MoE is a KQ game, though I agree that it did stray a lot from the prior titles, but as Roberta stated she never had the time to work her ideas out as she wanted, so that it might feel empty can't be a complete surprise. I didn't like it all that much, but that's just my nature.

I might also later merge this thread with one of the other threads on MoE, but for now, we'll let it stay :)

I hated MOE because I tink it's UGLY, I hate the ending that leaves you hanging. I guess Connor was put in a situation where he had to use violence to defend himself and his world. After all, hiding from the bad guys or talking things out with them would not work. I personally dislike violent games. I'm not a violent person. Little was told about Connor's persoanl life, what he really is like. From the clues in the game we gather that Connor has a relationship with Sarah, whether they are just friends or boyfriend and girlfriend is up to the player's imagination. Connor works as a tanner (disgusting job!) he's a struggling artist, he has dreams of being a hero, and is rather strong to face all the monsters by himself. He also knows Julia the barmaid, he says:
"Poor Julia, you were there for me when I had troubles. Now I must save you." Something like that.

In my fanfic I want to give Connor a chance to redeem himself from MOE. Just like I give Edgar a chance to be a hero.

MoE goes against everything KQ stands for. It's just the complete opposite of the REAL King's Quest games. Add in the horrid graphics, bad gameplay, annoying music, and...
The worst part is, this was supposed to end the KQ series. This is no way to end a series! It's like ending a RPG series with a Tetris style game, and not a good one. The whole game was one disappointment after another.

And who can stand Connor? "ZOUNDS! A Celestial GLOBE?" ::)

"Hate" is a strong word.  I dislike MoE for all the same reasons as everyone else here.  It was disguised as the 8th episode in the series when it was barely even an adventure game.

- it featured Connor, someone not related to the Royal Family whatsoever
- it was more action than adventure (i.e. violence)
- no plot or character interaction
- 3D graphics were sub-par for its time

I don't think it was intended as an end to the series, it was more like it did so poorly in sales that it forced the series to end.

To me, the worst part of MoE was the ending. KQ has always been known for its satisfying endings that actually--um, CONCLUDE the story. Well, the only reason I played MoE is to find out what happened to the Royal Family in the end, and I was ANGRY  >:( :-X when NOTHING GOOD HAPPENED! Sorry...I'm raging... :(

As a big fan of action games and all other violent games :P, I didn't like MoE because it wasn't a very entertaining action game and it bored me alot XD

The only reason I continued to play it was because I wanted to see what happened to the family :-\

I consider myself tricked into buying the game, because it had the words 'King's Quest' on it whilst it defies everything the previous KQ's stood for. If it had not born (?) the title 'King's Quest' (as it should have been), I would never have bought it and not have had such strong feelings against Connor. And ofcourse, I don't buy a game and then don't play it, and if I start playing, I still try my best to reach the end, just to make sure I didn't miss anything that would have been positive. :-X

lets just consider MOE is a King's Quest game, but its very different to the whole series and the graphics where terrible (spashes of a water triangles) and it has nothing to do with adventure, love, Kin's and Queens and Etheria :P

The only reason I bought the game was because it was ona sale and it came with twenty others 'has been' games like Quest for glory 5 and Starsiege, Towers of the ancients... QFG5 was the only one worth playing. I only played KQ8 until the end, because I had to see if Rosella married Edgar. That was a disappointment and I only played it through twice. The first time because I didn't get it (I figured I had to have pushed the spacebar or enter accidentaly because it was way too short) and the second time I realized that basically you saw nothing except some flowers getting unfrozen or light everywhere, or those guys standing at the altar alive again. The voice acting awas annoying and pathetic, the graphics were nothing compared to KQ7 or KQ6 or KQ5.  If one thinks about it, one only interacts with less than twenty people/things (besides Zombies and Skeletons that just say things like "Die Human, Die!") Sarah, The wizard, Lord Azriel, The oracle tree, the will o' wisps, The unicorn, the little girl, the brother that dies, Gnomes, Old man, memory guy, Blacksmith, Shaman, Those weird mountain guys, Ice-Queen (just how many Ice-queens are there?), Dragon, King, Archons, Lady of the lake, Weird woman that makes you stronger in realm of the dead. The dragon talked like a sixties robot and it was just mindless escapism that involves killing things with no real puzzles. The biggest puzzle in my opinion was trying to find out how to avoid the invisible monsters and how to fight the snowbeasts. The other KQ's were also escapism but at least you got to think! I can't believe Roberta could create something like that.

I think that it is a really good game, but definitely not a "King's Quest" game. It should have been part of another series, or (gasp) start a new series on its own. Hmm... MoE 2... the possibilities are endless...
