Omnipedia

Good Morning,

As some of you may know, members of the SQ community have put together the The Omnipedia an extensive user-editable database of all things Space Quest. We've got entries for characters, planets, inventory items, and the like, each able to be modified by any visitor to the site.

I'm interested in finding out if there would be interest in starting such a wiki for the King's Quest series. It's always seemed odd to me that while Kings Quest was a more popular series, Space Quest got more fans online

I'd love to help, and certainly be willing to host, or have KQ9.org, or whomever hot the wiki if members of the community were interested in such an idea.

It's fun because in the SQ wiki, we can then link to KQ, in such examples as when Roger travels to Daventry.

Certainly - this sounds like a good idea. I think many of the users here would be interested in contributing to the site, myself included, with all of our useless and excessive knowledge about all things King's Quest..

This is a great initiative Colin, I hope others will be able to see this as well.

A KQ Omnipedia does sound quite interesting.  Unfortunately, we wouldn't be able to host it on this site since our storage is pretty limited.

However, I'm sure our members would love to contribute to it so if you would like to start one, please go right ahead and let us know.

I don't have a whole lot of time to write to it right now, but that's why it's a publicly accessible and modifiable page.

The KQ omnipedia is Up, although it currently doesn't have any content. I'd suggest just going in and writing up a few sentences about your favorite zone, character, or even inventory items.. Whatever suits your fancy.

I'd love if we could build this to be a strong resource for the community.

This is definitely a great idea! I've already had some fun editing and what-not. But, a couple things I noticed that I can't figure out how to change...Alexander and Graham are on the same link and Malicia is spelt ending in an "l"...maybe you could change those?

And, anyone editing, don't forget to register so we can see who you are instead of trying to guess IP addys!

That's the great things about a wiki. You can edit any page, even the front page.  Just go and click "Edit" at the top of the screen, and you can change those, add new links, and the like.

Anyone can edit any page, which means we can all fill in the database

That said, I'll fix those links. But next time, you can. Or add more suggestions for pages.. I don't know KQ very well (as you can see), but I'd like to learn more. Add links to other pages that don't exist yet..

In writeups for pages, feel free to link to a page (by putting [[ ]] around a phrase. Then, whenever someone clicks on that phrase, it will go to a page about it. (or someone can write one)

EDIT: I am SO enjoying Omnipedia! Everyone go read the KQI summary Anyway, I'm having so much fun getting to sum all of this up!

One thing to note- If you click the Recent changes button on the left of the screen, you can see what people have changed recently, including Talk pages (there is a button labeled discussion atop each page)

Using those pages, we can comment on the pages you've written directly.

*blush* Thanks. I'm really busy the next few days, but I hope to get a couple more updates on the game summaries done.

EDIT: KQ IV summary is up. But I'm pretty sure someone will have to do KQ VII (haven't played it in a long time and those names always mixed me up!) and MOE. BTW, if anyone knows the names to all the lands in Eldritch, either let me know or add it to Omnipedia yourself

Well, I haven't quite figured out how to do a redirect... I would like to redirect either "King Graham" to "Graham" or vice-versa. If you do that, thanks, and please let me know how to do so...or just tell me and I'll make the attempt

Well, I almost have the basic information in the Omnipedia done now

You know what would really be cool? Eventually tying together the SQ and KQ pages (and if anyone does any other Sierra games), making a general, and large Sierra Wiki, which would have the history of Sierra (which could be compiled, with his permission, from Petter Holmberg's page) and a detailed omnipedia of Sierra games, their milieus such as the KQ pedia, and developement history and other design info and maybe some trivia. Also, once KQ9 comes out maybe KQ9 could be added to the KQ wiki. Also, character portraits for the characters from previous KQs.

BTW, is Wikipedia in general sponsored by this website or something/

Hey guys...don't forget to register on the Omnipedia site so we can see who you are.

Oh, and just wondering if any of you are adding the different species in the Omnipedia. When you make links, make sure there's not another link there already (such as, we had Abdul Alhazred and Alhazred both). That way, we won't have to combine and do redirects.

You can do a redirect like this

Basically, put a page with only

#REDIRECT [[The page to go to]]

As for linking the two, if you use [[SQ: A title]] it links to it on the SQ page. Likewise, if on the SQ page, you use [[KQ: A title]] it links to it on the KQ page.
