Hello,

I'm sorry if this alarms some people, but there has been an outbreak of a computer worm which is affecting mostly Windows 2000 systems and XP systems. Being a worm, it can affect your computer without you even knowing it. This worm is particulary malicious, such as when you turn off your computer after infection and when turning it on, the computer will reboot and turn off, turn on, turn off forever. I am not kidding, they had this all over the news a while ago. It had taken out some of the PCs at CNN, ABC, CNBC and others, and many NY Windows 2K computers and a few reported cases in Europe and Asia. However, it is being listed as low damage or something I believe by Microsoft (and this I am certain of:) Microsoft.com is hosting a patch to download which protects against this worm. Again, I apologize if anyone is alarmed, but I am simply looking out for the people here that they don't lose any precious information.

Best of luck

Yeah, I know some people that have gotten a hold of it earlier today(and some of SBC's computers stopped working altogether, though I'm sure that's been fixed by now).

Do you know if anyone on the team was effected?

Louisiana Night

No, I don't(I haven't heard anything about it though, if anyone has been).

Personally, I think it's mainly the large businesses(and the like) that are going to have a problem, not so much home users(I'd guess home user problems, will be more indirect).

I honestly and truly hate the people who create these viruses and worms and send them to other people for no reason, except (or so I've heard), for fun. On the news they were saying the largest of amount of people who make and send viruses are 17-21 year olds. When I think of these people I feel like "What did these people (the unlucky ones who get the viruses and have their pcs wrecked) do to these virus creators personally?" Nothing.  The people who did this are talented programmers (or so the news said) and it's a shame their talents can't be used for more positive means.

Are you guys talking about the Zotob worm?  It says that it only affects Win2k and it looks like they've already made prevention and removal tools. :)

I doubt it since everyone on the team uses either Win98 or WinXP.  I used to have Win2k about a year ago though. XD
